Stretta Therapy

Stretta Therapy Stretta radio frequency therapy offers an alternative to invasive surgical intervention for treatment of chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

When patients suffer from chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) that is not well controlled with medications, or where long-term PPIs are not desired, Stretta offers an alternative other than surgery. Stretta is a non-surgical, outpatient procedure that takes less than an hour, with patients returning to normal activities within a few days.

- Studies show Stretta improves GERD symptoms a

nd quality of life
- Stretta reduces or eliminates medications and reduces acid exposure
- Stretta is a non-surgical treatment delivered transorally (through the mouth)
- More than 40 clinical studies conclude Stretta is "safe and effective"
- Stretta results are long-lasting, proven effective from 4-10 years

Stretta uses low levels of radiofrequency (RF) engergy to treats the weak muscle between the stomach and esophagus that allows reflux to occur- addressing the underlying cause of GERD not just the symptoms

If you are among the 30 percent of chronic GERD patients whose symptoms are not well controlled by medications, or you are concerned about the potential side effects of long-term drug treatment, and surgery seems too aggressive, ask your doctor about Stretta Therapy.

A Case Report of A Man With Confirmed Scurvy Suggests the Forgotten Disease Could Be Roaring Back https://www.inverse.com/health/case-report-scurvy-pirate-disease-comeback

When taking certain acid reflux medications like proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), or after bariatric surgery, nutrient deficiencies from limited diets or medication effects are real concerns. This case published in BJM Journals highlights the importance of staying vigilant about your health—early detection and balanced nutrition are key to preventing issues before they escalate. If you have risk factors, check in with your healthcare provider and prioritize overall vitality!

A recent study published in the journal 'Lung' revealed that reflux can potentially lead to lung damage by triggering an immune response. When acid is aspirated into the lungs, it exposes normally hidden proteins, Collagen-V and K-α-1 Tubulin, prompting the body to produce antibodies against them. Elevated levels of these antibodies were found in many GERD patients, suggesting undetected lung damage. This discovery may help identify GERD-related respiratory issues earlier, highlighting the importance of recognizing the broader effects of reflux beyond just digestive symptoms.

Happy Respiratory Care Week 2024!

We celebrate the incredible work Respiratory Therapists do to improve the lives of their patients every day.

Respiratory therapists (RTs) play a crucial role in healthcare by assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with breathing disorders. They provide care to patients with chronic respiratory conditions like asthma and COPD, as well as emergency care for those experiencing difficulty breathing. RTs perform diagnostic tests, manage ventilators, deliver oxygen therapy, and educate patients on managing respiratory conditions. Their expertise is vital in ensuring patients receive the proper treatment for their respiratory health, often collaborating with other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

A new bidirectional Mendelian randomization study published in Nature has uncovered compelling evidence suggesting a 33% increased risk of developing Sjogren’s syndrome in individuals with genetic predispositions for GERD.

While GERD is commonly associated with acid reflux and digestive discomfort, this research highlights a potential connection to autoimmune conditions like SS, which impacts moisture-producing glands. Interestingly, the study found no significant evidence that Sjogren’s syndrome influences GERD risk, suggesting a one-way association.

These findings open up new possibilities for understanding the broader implications of GERD beyond gastrointestinal health. As ongoing research continues to explore these links, early diagnosis and comprehensive management of GERD may play a vital role in preventing secondary conditions.

Managing refractory Laryngopharyngeal reflux can be challenging—medications don’t always provide the relief patients need. Studies show that changing drug classes can help, but regular follow-up is essential for the best outcomes.

While symptom questionnaires are valuable tools for measuring response to therapy, objective, quantifiable data from a Restech pH study can help complete the picture.

This year, the theme of World Mental Health Day is Mental Health in the Workplace.

Employed adults spend more time working than any other activity during their waking hours.
Work can provide a livelihood and be a source of meaning, purpose, and joy. However, for too many people, work is stressful, and can detract from our mental health and well-being in ways that result in excessive distress and mental ill health.

As we posted during this week last year, the connection between acid reflux and anxiety or depression is complex and often bidirectional. So if you have one, be sure to watch out for the other and take care of yourself ❤️

The pHoenix score improves the distinction between normal and pathological cases and reduces ambiguity, offering an alternative approach to diagnosing GERD that addresses the limitations of using total acid exposure time or the DeMeester Score.

After recognizing that the standard threshold of pH 4 was not sensitive enough to detect reflux in the oropharynx, we introduced a new scoring system for pharyngeal pH testing called the RYAN Score in 2009. Then we further refined our a quantitative scoring system specifically for ENT populations, resulting in the Sataloff Score (2021).

We applaud ongoing efforts to enhance diagnostic scoring systems, ensuring more precise results and better treatment decisions for patients!
