This Atlantic article provides an example of something common in psychology; application of a psychological concept far outside the bounds of the original intent. Attachment theory was developed to describe the quality of the mother/offspring relationship. What are the implications of extrapolations like this one, or, in Bowen theory terms, the erosion of theory?

A therapist trained in Bowen theory would also focus on coaching for the parents, but with the idea of achieving something beyond support and parenting guidance.
