Nice intro.
But I'm not so sure that channa was not there before the Portuguese came to India. I think linking to Europe is an age old trope of whitewashing our past.
Anyway, I like that the story of Misti is spreading. There are so many varieties, rest of India is not aware of, what to say about rest of the world.

I made some Begun Basanti last night. I wanted to add fried Bori to the dish. I fried them, and put them on the side. But I kept snacking on them while cooking and soon almost all were gone! πŸ˜›
I know traditionally this is taken with hot warm rice, but I like to have this with rotis.

These days I find myself enjoying veggies way more than animal proteins, not sure why. The trouble is that it is very hard to buy small amounts of veggies, one has to buy a huge head of cabbage, can't buy one sweet potato... And when I buy in bulk, I can't eat it all, it goes to waste and I hate it!

I found them at North Park Produce. They're also available at the Indian grocery stores, of course.
We Bengalis only eat kul after Saraswati Puja. I never got an answer why, most elders always said "that's the tradition".
I do love Kuler Achaar, and have made it a few times.
