Getting diagnosed with postpartum depression was so much harder than it should have been for me. I had every advantage imaginable on my side, but I kept telling myself that I feel bad because ….I haven’t sleep, I forgot to each lunch, I need some self-care, I’m lonely, my life just got turned upside down by a baby. My mind rationalized all the ways that this feeling just made sense. And this rationalizing kept me from getting the real help I needed.

Our minds are quick thinking and often lead us down rabbit holes of short-term help. Like when you’re feeling tired. We know our body needs to rest, but what does your mind tell you? Drink coffee, and you’ll have energy again. It works for a *few* hours…until you crash, you’re jittery, and your sleep gets disrupted. If you keep listening to your mind’s short-term solutions, you find yourself feeling way worse than when you started.

During this time, I needed a giant neon flashing sign, a life boat, and a massive rescue squad screaming “Go get help now!” It was my partner stepping in, calling for an appointment, taking me to that appointment, and then taking on every single role of the village (including the rescue squad) that is the reason why I am still here with you today.

Most women who have taken their own life have done so without seeing a mental health professional. We need our partners, our communities, and every single person around us to help us through this time....whether you know us well or not at all. Your voice matters more than you will *ever* know.

Triphala is an all time favorite herbs that has become a permanent fixture in my Ayurvedic herb cabinet. Triphala has some incredible uses in the oncology world, and its' diversity is demonstrated in the countless new research that comes to light every day. It's a subtle herb that penetrates deep into the body, making its healing properties both gentle and effective.

One area where Triphala doesn't get enough credit in literature (yet), is its' ability to help restart and regulate delayed periods.

Relaxation means you are activating the part of your nervous system that is in charge of calming your mind. Getting your body to rest deeply while you are still awake requires some mild engagement, not just completely zoning out. The nervous system needs some help to turn on because we are rushing around all day long. If you want to experience this type of deep rest, you’ll get there through meditation, breathing, and other calming activities that leave you feeling refreshed and renewed. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Meditation (like transcendental meditation, kirtan kriya meditation)
Breathing exercises (like sky breathing, pranayama breathing, headspace app, calm app)
Nature bathing (even something as simple as sitting next to a coy pond or fountain of water)

My Story...

After working at an Integrative Neurology clinic for years, my eyes were forever opened to the life changing transformation that takes place when true healing occurs. Natural medicine filled in the gaps of the conventional way of practicing medicine, it helped to ease side effects and address minor ailments that had been unanswered by medications. I saw the lives of patient after patient become enriched with simple changes to their diet and routine.

And this is why my source of inspiration lies in the hands of Ayurveda-an ancient form of medicine that has stood the test of time as the first medical system in the world. My love affair with Ayurveda began as soon as I saw its impact, and has led me into 10 years of countless trips to South India (the origin of Ayurvedic Medicine) and study in the arts and science that embody Natural Medicine.
