All things sleep this week as it relates to brain health.

In regard to my last post on how food impacts your sleep, I sited research data and in doing so, I must make a correction.
Research has shown that having meals high in fiber and low in saturated fat and simple sugars, not low in complex sugars. You want to choose complex sugars because they metabolize much more slowly.
Fuel your brain and get some good sound sleep tonight.

Brain Health Sleep Tip

A good night’s sleep is essential to good health. The lack of good sound sleep will affect your mood, motor skills, performance as well as your ability to fight off infections.

You may not be aware of how food can impact your sleep. Specific foods directly relate to a key hormone, serotonin and along with vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid helps support sound sleep.
So, what foods can you eat that help you to get a good night’s sleep , support your immune system and increase serotonin levels improving your mood and help you to relax and get ready for bed?

Research has found that having meals high in fiber and low in saturated fat and complex carbs should lead to a deeper, more restorative sleep.
Six foods to get you there:
1. Complex carbohydrates like vegetables, sweet potatoes, whole grains, beans.
2. Lean proteins like salmon, turkey, chicken.
3. Healthy fats like walnuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios.
4. Foods high in magnesium like spinach,avocados, black beans, nuts, seeds.
5. Warm beverages like herbal teas of chamomile, peppermint, Tulsi Sleep tea, bone broth.
6. Fresh herbs like holy basil in Tulsi Sleep Tea.

Overall have your last meal 3 hours before sleep and by all means no caffeine 6-8 hours before bedtime.

Sleep-inducing snacks are allowed like banana with low-fat yogurt or my favorite, pure peanut butter on slice of apple.
Of course snack in moderation.
