Therapy is wonderful, however we typically only see our therapists for an hour a week at best.

Here are four ways to support your mental health outside of the therapy room and for FREE!

👉Sit in silence in the sun for 10 minutes, regulating to the Earth and absorbing all the vitamin D!
👉Practice deep breathing with your eyes closed and your hand over your heart. Connect and recalibrate with your being.
👉Drink a full glass of water while doing nothing else. Stare out a window, close your eyes, enjoy the simplicity.
👉Go for a barefoot walk on the beach or grass. Allow yourself to connect to the energy of the Earth.

Remain mindful, recalibrate, realign, and relax! 💆

Bringing back our mental health facts!

Lately the term ""narcissist"" is thrown around frequently to describe ex-partners who don't treat us right. However, the fact is about 6% of the population is diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. Possessing traits of a disorder is different than having a true diagnosis. Per the stats, the chances of your ex being diagnosed with true narcissistic personality disorder is slim. The value of this differentiation lies in the importance of de-stigmatizing mental health. Let’s find a space to honor our experience, separate from labeling another.

Let's face it, tantrums happen. Their timing always seems perfect and it can be hard to respond with love and empathy. In understanding what a tantrum is and what it is not, it can help us to regulate our own nervous systems in order to better understand our child and the needs they are trying to get met.

Children don't want to tantrum, it's not a personality fault or a decision to make our experience challenging. It's a form of communication as they navigate this confusing world. It's a way to try to find connection, safety, and support.

Let's change the way we view tantrums to change the way we support our children through them! 👩‍👦

It can be so difficult to find time and ways to connect with our partner while raising tiny humans. There is exhaustion, constant messes, lack of me-time, feeling “touched out,” or maybe it doesn’t feel like you are your partner are on the same page with parenting. These are all real life circumstances that impact our connection as a couple.

If you can first honor the struggle of raising kiddos and prioritizing your marriage, and second, remember that it is ok, in fact encouraged to set aside time, energy and attention for your marriage.

Kiddos are a gift and so is marriage - it is ok to nurture both.

Friendship creates a strong foundation for a healthy marriage. What is one thing you can do to nurture the beautiful friendship you and your spouse have? 👇

Six types of emotional abuse in relationships...

When it comes to abusive relationships, emotional abuse is still not discussed as often as it should be.  As it is a more covert form of abuse, it can be harder to pinpoint and identify within relationships, yet is incredibly impacftul.  This is why it is important to know the types and signs.

The above types and signs are by no means an exhaustive list when it comes to emotional abuse, simply a start to a larger conversation.

Mental Health Fact #4!

Did you know that symptoms of PTSD may not occur until years after the event?

Trauma is highly complex and is experienced by each individual differently.  Regadless of what the traumatic experience was, the effects of the experience and PTSD symptoms may not be prevelent for months or even years following the experience itself.  Our nervous system stores information deep within our body that we may only recognize subconsciously when it is activated again. This is why it is crucial to seek support, especially when experiencing a trauma of any kind.

Signs of trauma can often go unattended.  

Have you ever felt “off,”  perhaps you have experienced brain fog, or guilt, but are unsure of the root cause?

Are you constantly over-planning, fearing failure, and avoiding shame?

Or perhaps you fall hard into resistance and procrastination, fearing success?

These all may be signs of trauma.

It’s important to recognize that every human experiences trauma, it’s all on a spectrum.  The trauma you have experienced will look and feel different than the next, but both are worth tending to and you are worthy of love, support, and healing.

Take good care today, go easy, and tend to whatever arises.  It’s worth exploring and healing. ❤️

Those who identify with ADHD may know this all too well.  And want another fun fact? The ADHD brain can also provide the best visions, artistic creations, and perspectives that those without ADHD may be challenged in.
