With closer monitoring, many 35-week premature babies will do better without Intensive Care.

Iβm Joanna and Iβm a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) providing evidence-based, holistic healthcare to women and LGBTQI people in all stages of life. At Mother to Mother Midwifery and Best Start Birth Center, I provide home birth, birth center birth, and prenatal, postpartum, and well-woman/ gynecology services. I was trained as a Registered Nurse, Public Health Nurse, Certified Nurse Midwife, and Womenβs Health Nurse Practitioner at the University of California, San Francisco. Iβve attended almost 200 labors & births in homes, birth centers and hospitals throughout California and Guatemala. I love working with all moms: young families, LGBT couples, single moms, Spanish speaking moms.
My birth philosophy is that women are strong and birth is natural and beautiful. Labor and birth are life experiences that should be embraced. My job is to help a mom-to-be discover her own strength and beauty in labor and birth so that she and her family can achieve an empowering childbirth experience. I use the 6 Naturopathic Principles in my care:
First, do no harm. Every decision has risks and benefits. I explain carefully and help you to minimize harm and reap benefits at every turn.
Nature has healing powers. I donβt interfere in normal births because mother natureβs wisdom is strong.
Treat the cause, not the symptoms. I donβt believe in band-aid solutions without trying to get to the bottom of whatever is bothering you.
Share information. I will be your guide through your conception, pregnancy and birth; I will not take it over from you.
Holistic care is best. I treat the whole person, who is much more than the sum of their parts.
Prevention is wellness. We work together to prevent sickness in mom and baby in the first place.
