It’s that time of year again! While it's the most wonderful and most delicious, what’s not so merry is what it can do to our waistlines.
Weight gain happens overtime. Starting at the age of 25, the average adult adds on 2.2 pounds annually, and 75 percent occurs during the holidays. It’s not just the Thanksgiving or Christmas Dinner, it’s the holiday festivities that rack up the calories. For every white elephant, secret Santa, ugly sweater bar crawl, and office Christmas party there are at least two things that will always be present – snacks and drinks.
Try these THREE simple strategies to avoid the trap so you can still eat, drink, and be merry without piling on the pounds.
1. In your off-time, stay balanced and eat well – Think whole, minimally processed and healthy foods when you’re eating during the week. Keep it balanced with protein, fat and smart carbs.
2. Don’t deprive yourself, but do be mindful – The best ways to practice mindful eating during the holidays is to EAT SLOWLY- you’ll end up eating less. Strike up friendly conversations so you won’t be scarfing food down the whole time. Come up with a game-plan before heading out for the festivities like eating before, so you won’t eat as much at the event. Avoid sitting or standing near the buffet table when possible, and set a one-two drink limit for when you’re out for the evening. If there’s dessert, don’t think you can’t indulge, but tell yourself that you are only going to have two bites and you’ll be satisfied.
3. Up the activity – Working out is a must when avoiding weight gain during the holidays. People begin to not make time for their workouts. Make a schedule, put it on the calendar! High-intensity and total body core routines are perfect, quick workouts to get into shape because they use up so many of your carbohydrate stores. Compound sets in particular can boost your metabolism to get rid of fat and promote muscle growth. They’re perfect for before a big night out, or after a holiday lunch. Happy Holidays!

Here’s a one of our favorite brain drills that is fast, effective and only utilizes a pen or stick to help increase your speed, power, and force. Follow along and try it out yourself!

2️⃣ Compared 4 reps of a forehand (before neural drill)
3️⃣ Then compared forehand reps (after neural drill) *with absolutely no biomechanical coaching* you’ll see that without the vision drill he is just beginning to swing. But after the drill he is already fully through his swing in the same amount of time.

This is an upper body movement designed to improve fast-twitch, explosive muscle fibers. Be sure to keep your spine tall as you fall. Start with the wall or higher box and only progress to a lower surface if you can successfully maintain a long spine when pushing yourself back.
Aim for 3 sets of 6-8 reps and make sure you take at least a FULL minute rest. The rest is key so you can be as explosive as possible during each rep. Try doing this first on your next chest workout, and let us know how you like it!

🤯 You know sometimes clients walk out of our sessions thinking I performed some voodoo, witchcraft or even "tricked" their brain. Either way, they come out of there naturally healed or have enhanced their athletic performance within 1-3 sessions.
👉🏽 So let me say this, it's not too complicated... I am NOT tricking the brain, just providing the brain with better, more accurate information because all day, every day, the brain: receives input/info --> interprets it --> makes a decision and signals an output (whatever you're trying to improve).

🎃 It’s that time of year again where the holidays start rolling in one after the next, and the sweet treats seem to be never ending! Below are some tricks to beat the treats and have a healthy Halloween.
Did you know to burn off one Butterfinger candy bar, you would need to do 10 minutes of Zumba?! For one Milky Way bar, you would have to be on the elliptical for 9 minutes. Surprising? I bet! It’s important to note, as mentioned in my book, Fuel Your Performance, “calorie burn estimates are imprecise; individuals burn calories uniquely and variably…caloric intake apps can be off by 25% due to incorrect labeling, laboratory measurement error, food quality, and individual differences”. I also don’t want you to use exercise as a punishment from eating a piece of candy. The point of this is not to scare you away from enjoying a candy bar, but simply to provide some awareness if you indulge in some sweet treats this Halloween.
So here are two tricks to beat the treat.
1. Be mindful and change your environment. From my book FYP, “People may think it’s all about willpower, but willpower matters far less than your systems and environment. The systems (your routine and schedule) you have set in place can make for a much easier transition, as they influence your nutrition choices.” Quite simply, change your environment, enjoy your piece or two that one night, then give away the leftover candy. By doing this you remove the temptation and unnecessary use of willpower.
2. Eat slowly. Chew the candy very slowly and wait for the candy to dissolve before swallowing. This will help you feel satisfied more quickly, thus you won’t eat as much!

Client Spotlight: Meet Erika!
👉🏽 After receiving the vaccine she got a blood clot in her left eye and went blind. Every single doctor she saw said that the clot would damage her sight forever. Doctors gave her no hope. Well, she wouldn’t accept that and reached out to me. By our second session, she was reading and seeing! Fast-forward a few weeks and now she’s sleeping better than ever, feeling grounded, more balanced, getting on cars/trains without dizziness, nausea, etc. Miraculously, you can see the phenomenal improvements on her eye!

I think vaccines have merit, and have their time and place, but I think we should be given full disclosure. There could be some side effects (just like any drug). Please reach out if you’ve experienced any issues after having covid or the vaccine. I’ve helped many people recover from heart inflammations, to retrieving their taste and smell back!

👉🏽Take a moment and evaluate your stress. We all will need and have some, but it’s all about the levels, low to medium is fine, but chronically elevated stress can be a major problem. Is there anything in your life that makes you leans towards chronic bad stress? Some examples could be work, unnecessarily hard workouts, relationships, family, friends, environment, etc... these could 100% negatively affect your performance. If you can’t “quit” any of the above, try to incorporate more good stress to help balance this out.
👉🏽There is no right or wrong to this, everybody is different based on what relaxes or excites you. Some suggestions include a fun workout, a bike ride, going for a walk or light jog, a hike, yoga class with a friend, meditating, take a bath, breathing, getting quality sleep, even whole nutritious foods that repair and rebuild your body. Find what works for you! Plan some quality time for yourself, your body will thank you.
