Another unforgettable evening with our Director of Dining Services and Chef, Roger, leading our monthly wine tasting course! This month’s spotlight: Malbec — and what a journey it was.
Roger guided residents through the history of this beloved varietal, exploring its rich flavors, bold tannins, and the subtle layers that make each Malbec unique. From vineyard origins to tasting techniques, everyone walked away with a deeper appreciation for the art (and joy!) of wine.
Sipping, learning, and sharing great conversation… it’s nights like these that make community life something truly special.

🎬 Lifelong Learning at Its Finest! 📚
What’s better than lifelong learning? Learning from the incredible residents who make our community so vibrant.
This week at Wesley Palms, our very own resident and Jewish History Professor Emeritus, Lawrence, led a fascinating continuing education course titled “Jews Meeting Non-Jews on the Silver Screen.”
Professor Lawrence guided the group through an exploration of Jewish representation in film and sparked meaningful conversation as he presented and discussed “Like a Bride” (Dir. Guita Schyfter, Mexico, 1993).
Moments like these remind us what community is all about—sharing passions, expanding perspectives, and learning from one another’s lifelong experiences. 💛
Here’s to curiosity, connection, and the joy of learning at every stage of life.

This special evening brings together residents, their families, team members and loved ones to enjoy an elevated, multi-course meal shared in good company. It's a time to slow down, savor meaningful moments, and celebrate the connections that make our community feel like home.
From the warm glow of candlelight to the laughter around each table, these dinners remind us how precious togetherness truly is. ❤️

🎥🌴 PALM TALKS Presents: A Hidden Chapter of WWII History

A big thank you to our resident Steve for sharing an eye-opening and deeply personal Palm Talk that brought history to life at Wesley Palms. 💬📽️

Residents and guests gathered for a special screening of a powerful documentary from the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, exploring Operation K — a little-known Japanese attack on March 4, 1942, that came dangerously close to claiming the life of someone who would one day call Wesley Palms home. 🇺🇸🕊️

Steve’s presentation gave us a rare look at a forgotten moment in WWII history, made even more impactful through its personal connection and emotional storytelling.

It was an unforgettable afternoon of discovery, reflection, and community learning. Thank you, Steve, for sharing this incredible piece of history with us! 🙏🎖️

Día de los Mu***os – A Celebration of Memory and Love 🧡
Each year from October 31 to November 2, many people in Mexico and across Latin America celebrate Día de los Mu***os, or the Day of the Dead. Far from being a somber occasion, this beautiful tradition honors loved ones who have passed away with color, music, and remembrance.

Here at our community team members created this beautiful ofrenda, lovingly decorated with photos, candles, flowers (especially marigolds), colorful papel picados ("perforated paper"), favorite foods, and favorite belongings of those who are remembered. Calaveras, or decorative skulls often made of sugar or clay, symbolize both mortality and the joy of life, reminding us to smile even as we remember.

Our group ofrenda will be on display in the first floor Memorial Corner from October 30 through November 4.

🫖👒 A Delightful Afternoon at Wesley Palms!

Our residents recently enjoyed a lovely High Tea — complete with their favorite hats, tasty tea sandwiches, sweet desserts, and, of course, their favorite brews! 🍰☕️🎩

It was a beautiful afternoon of elegance, conversation, and community as we gathered to share laughter, stories, and a few extra cups of tea. 🫖💬💕

From floral fascinators to classic sunhats, our residents looked fabulous as they sipped and savored in style.

As part of our Front Porch family, Wesley Palms reinvests the profits back into the community — creating new roles like Alejandro’s! 🙌 Working five days a week, his sole role is to help residents with all things tech — from smart TVs 📺 to cell phones 📱, emails 💌, computers 💻, and printers 🖨️.

He also puts on wonderful tech talks to educate residents and keep everyone up to date on the latest technology trends! 💡🎤

Another great example of how being a not-for-profit community means giving back — not cashing out. 💙

We lovingly call them our Wesley Paws, and they bring joy, companionship, and comfort to our residents every single day. With 35 acres of walkable, pet-friendly grounds here in beautiful San Diego, it’s the perfect setting for wagging tails, sunny strolls, and happy hearts. 🌴🐶🐾

A huge THANK YOU to Sarah Kearns and her amazing Puddle Jumpers team — our on-site Dog Walker Concierge service. Sarah and her team are on campus 7 days a week, making sure our Wesley Paws are cared for with love and attention. 🐕‍🦺💼

But she’s so much more than a dog walker — Sarah is a true pet concierge. She connects with residents, understands their pet’s unique needs, and helps find thoughtful solutions — whether it’s daily walks, vet visits, grooming, or just friendly advice. 🩺✂️🐾

Her compassionate, personalized approach supports our pets while helping us support our residents. We’re so grateful to have her as part of our extended Wesley Palms family. 💚

We were honored to welcome Dr. Fang Yu, author and professor, to lead a fascinating session on The Buddha: His Life and Teachings as part of our World Religions series in Woodbury Hall.

Residents explored the life journey of Siddhartha Gautama, the core principles of Buddhism, and the enduring impact of his teachings on cultures and philosophies around the world. 🌏🧘‍♂️

It was a thought-provoking and enriching afternoon, filled with deep reflection, engaging discussion, and meaningful learning. Thank you, Dr. Yu, for sharing your wisdom and insight with our community!
