💞 Self-Compassion Phrase: "May I give myself permission to savor and enjoy my food, one bite at a time."

Today’s phrase invites you to approach food with mindful and self-compassionate awareness. During your next meal or snack, give yourself permission to savor each bite you take in, honoring your body’s needs while connecting to the present moment.

Before you begin eating, take a moment to reflect on your relationship with food—how it has been shaped by your culture, family, and experiences. Notice how the food looks, smells, sounds, and feels, allowing each of your senses to be activated. Appreciate the earth, and the many hands that brought it to you, from the farmer to the grocer to the chef, restaurant server, or friend or family member (or yourself) who cooked for you.

As you eat, take it slow and notice each sensation: the anticipation of your first bite, the taste, the feeling of swallowing. Allow yourself to truly enjoy the act of eating, one bite at a time.

Afterward, check in with your body—ask yourself, "How do I feel now?" And then ask yourself, "How do I want to feel?" Letting go of judgment, what might you do at your next meal to nurture yourself? Eating can be an act of self-compassion.

💞 Self-Compassion Phrase: ""I ask my body what it needs and practice compassionately listening to it, making time to rest, move, or settle into stillness, if only for a minute."

Self-compassion encourages us to turn toward our bodies with curiosity and care. As we practice compassionate listening, we acknowledge these needs without judgment, holding space for our experiences. When we respond with acts of kindness—perhaps by resting, finding stillness, or moving our bodies—to honor our body’s signals, it begins to respond in kind. Even when we can’t meet every need, the act of listening itself is a way to care for ourselves, strengthening the connection between body and mind and reminding us of our innate worthiness of compassion.

Compassionate body listening can be done in several ways. One way is through a compassionate walking practice, which can be done for as little or as long as you like—from a few seconds of noticing with kindness your feet shifting from left to right as you move from your bed to the bathroom or from the house to the car. Or it can be a longer walk in nature, savoring its beauty through your senses for 15-60 minutes.

Whatever amount of time you choose, offering your body tenderness and gratitude for all that it allows you to experience can help answer the question, "What do I need?"

💞 Self-Compassion Phrase: "I am worthy of rest and renewal. I give myself permission to rest and recharge."

Taking time to recharge and giving yourself permission to rest is an important part of self-care, and self-care is an act of self-compassion.

Rest and renewal can come in different forms: sitting in silence, taking a nap, listening to a guided meditation, walking in nature, or simply pausing to breathe deeply for a few inhales and exhales (like right now :).

In the MSC course half-day retreat, we focus on helping you connect with your inner presence, your body, and your experiences with awareness and kindness. One way of doing this is by acknowledging your body and all it does for you with a body scan.

You can do a brief body scan to ground and calm yourself in less than a minute right now by reading this paragraph and pausing just for a second with each body part. Bringing your awareness to your feet and toes, and now traveling upward through your calves, knees, thighs, hips, buttocks, pelvic area, lower back, spine, abdomen, chest, arms, shoulders, neck, face, back of the head, crown of the head, and now gently bringing yourself back to your breath, feeling the energy of life flowing through you, bringing a smile to your face, and now moving back into your day.

💞 Self-Compassion Phrase: "May I remember what deeply matters to me and make time to honor it today."

As we move through each day, it’s easy to get caught up in the rush of responsibilities and distractions. Yet, when we take a moment to pause and remember what truly matters to us, we reconnect with our deepest values. This simple intention—to show our values through our actions—guides us toward a life that feels more aligned and purposeful.

By intentionally living from a place of integrity, we not only nurture our own well-being but also contribute to the world around us in ways that reflect our truest selves. Even the smallest actions can carry great meaning when they are rooted in what we most cherish.

Decide on one thing you can do in the next 24 hours that reflects what matters most deeply to you—and then do it. Schedule it in your calendar, or send yourself a text, add it to an alarm on your phone, or send yourself an email; whatever it is, honor it. That's an act of self-compassion.

👋 Meet Eliza - Program Manager, Self-Compassion hype girl, student support enthusiast

"After taking my LOMSC, being surrounded by MSC practitioners and curriculum, and really learning more about self-compassion, I've been able to show up for myself more in moments of stress. This is especially important while helping my kids navigate their stress, perceived failure, and shame. It's also really helped me be kind to myself when I know I haven't done my best, when I've stumbled, or when I've made a mistake. Learning how to be a good friend to myself - and showing my kids and partner how to be a good friend to themselves - is a gift I know that will impact us forever.

I have been at CMSC for a little under a year now and I really try to savor moments, every day. This can be a small moment or a big moment, but being present and mindful of the ways in which I can savor the good things in my days has been a real shift in my everyday life.

It is always my goal to be helpful - in as many ways as possible. Whether I'm responding to an email about curriculum access, submitting your continuing education information, or answering questions about upcoming courses, my whole day revolves around making sure YOUR experience with MSC and CMSC is exceptional and filled with ease. I really love putting this content out into the world because I know it does so much good. So if you need help, I'm your person."
