Healing WAVES, Dawn Rosen HEALING HINTS The expansion of industry, technology and information in the last 80 years has placed unrelenting stress on the human race to change and adapt.

The rapid pace of our lives reflects our attempts to keep up, and this has not been without cost to our health. Industrialization has brought pollution to our environment. With the expansive use of electrical devices, radio frequencies and wireless transmissions, our homes and work places carry unseen toxins that interfere with the normal function of our tissues. As a result we are experiencing a precipitous rise in non-specific illness and disease.

MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS

The normal excuses for not meditating most often include:

I don't have the time....
I don't have the patience....
My mind is too busy....
I don't know how....

This is a tip from Suzanne Giesemann, a Mystic, Medium. Would you rather go meditate for 45 minutes or just have a SIP of the divine? Anybody can sit for just 3 minutes. All you need to do is Sit In Peace and ask one question. Focus on that one question and the answer you receive. This practice will be having a sip of the divine. SIP = sit in peace. It works! 🦋

RECOGNIZING PTSD AFTER A STROKE

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition that runs its victims down emotionally and physically. Though most frequently linked to combat veterans, natural disaster and s*xual-assault survivors, PTSD can present itself after experiencing or witnessing any traumatic experience, and that includes medical emergencies.

Suffering a stroke is a traumatic physical and emotional event. It is common for people to feel overwhelmed after lifesaving medical treatment. It is difficult to adjust and cope with everyday life again. They may feel tortured with feelings of self-doubt or misplaced guilt after a stroke. Most commonly people struggle with relaxing and sleeping, have flashbacks, nightmares or unsettling memories, are easily startled and afraid, feel unyielding anxiety and panic and isolate themselves from others. These psychological reactions typically diminish over the course of weeks or months.

Depending on the severity of the event, a person can experience these symptoms either constantly or in waves, but when these distressing mental health symptoms last longer than a few months, coping with daily life becomes very difficult. Studies show one in four people who survive a stroke will suffer from PTSD within the first year. One in nine stroke survivors experience chronic PTSD more than a year later.

Unfortunately, it is common for the symptoms of PTSD following a stroke to go unnoticed; due to the intense nature of physical recovery. It is important to recognize the huge impact the psychological hardship associated with PTSD can have. Unfortunately, the physical symptoms caused by PTSD often lead to elevated heart rate, increased blood pressures and risk of another stroke.

Psychotherapy: You deserve relief from psychological pain. Sometimes referred to as “talk therapy,” psychotherapy is the process of speaking with a mental health professional and can take place in a one-on-one capacity or in a group setting. The strain of PTSD symptoms wreak havoc on a person's daily life - effecting family, friends and professional relationships. To help heal the damage multiple forms of psychotherapy may be combined to encompass any and all issues a person may be having with the aftermath of a stroke.

Sensory Treatment turns your senses into "triggers" for happiness, release, and relaxation. Since PTSD is triggered by events that remind you of your trauma, it's healing to actively continue looking for ways to trigger pleasure. Find things that really appeal to your senses. Are there certain songs that uplift you? Do you become more relaxed when you smell the aroma of something specific? Do specific places or pictures bring feelings of calmness?

Medication: PTSD symptoms can be very taxing on survivors of stroke and heartbreaking for their families to see. A mental health practitioner or psychiatrist may prescribe medications to people struggling with outbursts of anger, sadness, depression, irregular sleep patterns, overwhelming worry, anxiety or panic attacks.

Support: PTSD after stroke is under-recognized and undertreated. It is encouraging to have family members and close friends involved in the healing process as having a strong support system improves the likelihood and speed of psychological recovery from the trauma of a stroke.

ANDREW SAUL, AS FEATURED IN "FOOD MATTERS"

Niacin is vitamin B-3, one of the water soluble B-complex vitamins. Niacin has the ability to greatly reduce anxiety and depression. Another unique property of niacin is its ability to help you naturally relax and get to sleep more rapidly at night. It is also well established that niacin helps reduce harmful cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. Abram Hoffer, M.D., Ph.D. explains: "Niacin is one of the best substances for elevating high density lipoprotein cholesterol (the "good cholesterol) and so decreases the ratio of the total cholesterol over high density cholesterol."

*** Supercharge with Superfoods ***

CHLORELLA: Chlorella is a green algae that grows in fresh water and aids in the detoxification of the body. It is a good source of protein, fats, carbohydrates, fiber, chlorophyll, vitamins, and minerals. It supports healthy hormonal function, reduces blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It is also used to increase “good” bacteria in the intestine and protect the body against toxic metals.
MORINGA: Moringa contains proteins, vitamins, and minerals. As an antioxidant it also helps strengthen cell walls while preventing heart disease. Moringa leaves retain lots of vitamins and minerals when dried and are used to fight malnutrition. Moringa is praised for its capacity to purify water and make it potable. It is used for anemia, arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure and infection.
SPIRULINA: Spirulina is a blue-green microalgae, a superfood from the sea used to treat a range of metabolism and heart health issues including diabetes and high cholesterol. High in plant protein, Spirulina is also a good source of iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium and B vitamins. The Aztecs first discovered this food in Central America, and they consumed it daily for energy and strength.
MINT: Mint plants contain an antioxidant known as rosmarinic acid. The anti-inflammatory properties are effective in relieving seasonal allergy symptoms. Mint has a refreshing taste. As a medicinal herb it is used to treat indigestion, nausea and irritable bowel syndrome. It is a natural decongestant that helps to break up phlegm and mucus.
BEETS: Beets are a nutritious heart healthy root vegetable. They are a good source of antioxidants, folate, potassium and fiber. Many people don’t care for the texture of raw beets, however - the isolated juice tastes great in the blend!
MATCHA GREEN TEA: A common refreshment in Japanese monasteries, Matcha is high in an antioxidant called EGCG which reduces stress, regulates hormones to within normal ranges, and reduces appetite. The tea contains a high level of easily-absorbable dietary fiber.
WHEATGRASS: The ancient Egyptians worshipped this food for its positive health benefits. Known as the “life-blood” of plant life, Wheatgrass contains up to 70% chlorophyll which is antibacterial. It cleanses and regenerates the blood, neutralizing toxins.
ASHWAGANDHA: Ashwagandha is an adaptogen (a combination of amino acids, vitamins, and herbs) that helps your body cope with its response to emotional & mental stress (i.e. anxiety, exhaustion) and external stress such as toxins in the environment. It enhances energy and stimulates s*x drive. It is a known mood boosting herb and can play an important role in fighting mood imbalance.
TURMERIC: Turmeric comes from the root of the Curcuma Longa plant which contains “curcumin” - a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Research has shown that turmeric reduces the pain caused by osteoarthritis.
LEMON: This yellow fruit has countless health benefits and adds refreshing citrus to the blend. Compounds such as ascorbic acid, citric acid and flavonoids help stabilize blood sugar. We’ve added just enough to give it a light flavor without overpowering any of the other ingredients.
COCONUT WATER: Not to be confused with high-fat coconut milk or oil, coconut water is a clear liquid in the fruit’s center. Nature’s super hydrating refreshment, coconut water is low in calories, fat & cholesterol free, high in potassium and electrolytes. Coconut water is also a natural appetite suppressant.
MONK FRUIT: The fruit was first mentioned in the records of the 13th-century Chinese monks who used it. Indigenous to China and Thailand, Monk fruit is used today in products as a natural sweetener. The powder is low glycemic, it has zero calories and is said to be up to 300 times sweeter than sugar. In traditional Chinese medicine the fruit itself is believed to help in treating cough, sore throat, diabetes and obesity. Also known as the “longevity fruit” it is believed to promote a long life.
