🍼 Is your baby crying or arching their back after feeding?
It’s one of the most common questions we hear at MilkWise — and while it’s often related to gas or growth spurts, persistent discomfort could also signal reflux or a latch issue.

💛 Here’s our gentle reminder: You don’t have to figure it out alone.

Our team of IBCLCs supports parents statewide — helping you understand what your baby’s body is telling you, and making feeding more peaceful for both of you.

🫶 Serving all of California — your village is here.

Across time and cultures, mothers have turned inward to find their own wisdom on how they feed their baby — the same instinct that guides a newborn to latch.

This wisdom often was honed by being held in a village of sisters, aunties, mamas, elders and beyond who passed down skills mamas have used from generation to generation.

At MilkWise, we believe in bridging ancient wisdom with modern technology and support.

Our IBCLCs are allies who can help you rediscover your natural intelligence and share skills so as a mother you can make your own choices for you and your baby attuned to your inner wise woman.

✨ Latch + Learn ✨
Gentle guidance from our IBCLCs for happier, easier feeding.

This is the first post in our new weekly series where we share expert tips and tricks straight from our IBCLCs.

This week on Latch + Learn: Nursing Neck 🍼

Are you leaning over to feed your baby, bringing your breast to your baby, or gazing down at that adorable face the whole time you nurse? We get it—but this posture can cause serious back and shoulder strain (aka “nursing neck”).

👉 Instead, always bring your baby to you, not the other way around.
🪶 If you’re using a breastfeeding pillow, place it right under your breast, and add a bed pillow beneath it if needed for extra lift.
💪 Take regular breaks to roll your neck and shoulders.
🧘‍♀️ Try yoga poses that open your chest and strengthen your upper back—like cat-cow, cobra, or bow pose.
😴 Switch up positions: try the laid-back breastfeeding hold or side-lying hold for relief.

These small shifts can make a big difference in your comfort and your breastfeeding journey.

Honest. Raw. Unfiltered.

The new Mother Vérité statue in London, commissioned by Chelsea Hirschhorn, founder of Frida, and sculpted by Rayvenn Shaleigha D’Clark, is a stunning tribute to the real postpartum experience.

Standing seven feet tall, she cradles her newborn — breasts engorged, belly still swollen, clothed only in disposable postpartum underwear. It’s a powerful reminder of what the fourth trimester actually looks and feels like — tender, messy, sacred, and rarely seen.

After debuting outside the Lindo Wing, she’ll move to Portman Square for Frieze, then Art Basel in Miami, before returning to London for good. Because it’s about time the world saw motherhood as it really is.
