Welcome to Montado Farms a proposed permaculture/restoration agriculture farm in San Diego, California modeled after the oak-savanna biome of the mediterranean western U.S. Montado Farms is the brainchild of Kevin Muno, a young farmer in the San Diego region who is looking to establish a whole new model for how Californians and others who live in dryland climates obtain their staple food crops, fu
els, medicines, and fibers. While at USD, Kevin played 4 seasons of varsity baseball for the powerhouse Torero team. As an athlete, Kevin looked to superior nutrition to help fuel his performance. He started to take an in depth look into how his food was produced and where it came from. He learned that the majority of the world's calories come from 4 main crops: corn, soy, wheat, and rice. Some may call these crops, staple food crops, because they provide the majority of the proteins, carbohydrates, and oils that keep our metabolism running as humans. After studying how these crops are grown, he realized how detrimental large scale annual farming is to our soil. Kevin graduated college in 2011 and shortly there after married his beautiful wife Deena Muno. Together Deena and Kevin strived to feed themselves with the best possible nutrition to live fruitful and happy lives. Kevin's love for nature and nutrition led him into a career of farming and permaculture. His journey into permaculture and broad scale farming led him to the work of Mark Shepard and Restoration Agriculture. Kevin has obtained two permaculture certifications. His first certification was obtained through the San Diego Sustainable Living Institute and one of San Diego's best permaculture designers in Josh Robinson. Kevin then got his second certification from Mark at New Forest Farm, where he learned the in's and out's of how Restoration Agriculture systems operate. Together, Kevin and Deena are embarking on a journey to start one of the first Restoration Agriculture farms in San Diego. Together with your help, they will be able to accomplish their dream and start the discussion of how we obtain our staple foods, medicines, and fibers from this planet without destroying it. Montado Farms is their proposed plan, and they look forward to your support to help this dream come true.
