Since our work began in 2006 in schools and eating disorder treatment centers, we have worked with over 10,000 children, adolescents and young adults to design and implement mental health interventions that have shown to be deeply engaging and impactful for youth. Resiliency Technologies (RT) has developed the Sharpen DTX platform that provides patient support in a more effective manner and at lower costs than any previously available solution. Use cases include: (i) Pediatric visits where the clinician suspects or has previous knowledge that a patient is suffering from moderate to severe depression and/or anxiety and requires referral to psychiatric services. (ii) Patients who are on a waitlist for initial psychiatric services (iii) Patients who are in between psychiatric visits and would benefit from adjunct psycho-education, MBSR or CBT.

Important community training on eating disorders happening April 16th at 4pm at Middle Tyger Community Center - open to parents, educators and clinicians. CEs provided for nurses via Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System Careers and LPCs can receive CE's through NBCC. We updated an eating disorder film titled "ED 201" that we recently updated to feature national researchers, clinicians and individuals with lived expertise discussing recent risk and protective factors. But the project is even more crucial because it came out of a training program grant funded by Spartanburg Regional Foundation and Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine to train physicians and medical students about eating disorders through SharpenMinds 4 hour program - what physicians / pediatricians need to know about eating disorders today. We then empower those physicians and medical students to serve as the health educators for community trainings. We have completed the first phase of the grant and are now moving to the community trainings featuring the trained health educators. I'm so blown away by our team, led by co-PIs Natalie M Fadel Maggie Gainey, and our co-investigators Duke Biber, PhD, NBC-HWC, Alexis Marino Stoner and Timothy Brewerton. This has been a long journey and we couldn't have done this without the support, inspiration and leadership of the United Way of the Piedmont behavioral health task force -- a tribe of collaborators making real impact every day.

Public health / prevention research requires trans-disciplinary collaborations and partners. One partner I'd like to highlight is the insanely talented team at University of South Carolina department of psychology: the South Carolina School Behavioral Health Academy

The SC School Behavioral Health Academy is being developed in recognition of the significant accomplishments of John H. Magill, former State Director of the Department of Mental Health, who has played an instrumental and continuing role in developing effective child, adolescent and school mental health programs in our state, earning national acclaim.

Led by school mental health pioneer, Mark Weist, and other psychology faculty at the University of South Carolina (UofSC), the John H. Magill SC School Behavioral Health Academy (SBHA) is a community of learning that will help schools build positive campus cultures and enhance mental health services to students.

The SBHA trains personnel in creating safe schools, responding to crises, science-based approaches to counseling, whole-school approaches to preventing mental health and behavioral problems, among many other topics. Training experiences and coaching will evolve based on the preferences and needs of SC communities, which are being assessed through a statewide needs assessment.

After the training, districts receive SharpenMinds toolkits – customized with mental health literacy, emotional and mental wellness resources for parents, educators and youth.

I am beyond thrilled to announce our partnership with Trauma-Resilient Educational Communities.

At their recent launch in San Diego, hosted by UCSD Park & Market downtown, Craig Beswick, Vice-President, School Development Division, Lifelong Learning Administration Corporation (LLAC) welcomed over 200 attendees to the awards ceremony and TREC Inauguration where global hero, Vincent Felitti, MD, received the very first TREC Trailblazer Award. Dr. Felitti has changed millions of lives around our world through the ground-breaking Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study released in May, 1998.

“We know that before we can reach students’ heads, we need to reach their hearts,” explained Craig Beswick. “With a societal cost of $458 billion to treat this epidemic, moving from ’informed’ to ‘resilient’ practices will benefit everyone.”

The partnership between Resiliency Technologies (SharpenMinds) and TREC will result in increased collaborations between the organizations and with Principal Amanda Clark, Dr. Felitti and others.

Creating trauma-resilient communities requires deep partnership and collaboration. Since we have met Dana Brown, Craig Beswick and the TREC team, we have been impressed by the level of integrity, excellence and commitment to evidence-based practices.

Our partnership will enable TREC to serve as a reseller of the Sharpen system and for Resiliency Technologies will be an authorized reseller of the TREC Model.

We look forward to the opportunity to work alongside Dana Brown, Craig Beswick, and the entire TREC team to power more healthy minds through evidence-based / trauma-resilient solutions.

For nearly 20 years SharpenMinds has had the privilege of sitting down with researchers, practitioners and experts in eating disorders to create powerful documentary film training programs that have been deployed in hundreds of academic institutions. We started with ED 101 and Speaking Out About Eating Disorders, then created Beneath the Floorboards in 2013 when binge eating disorder was entered into the DSM. Our health education programs when implemented with fidelity, have shown to increase engagement, decrease stigma and improve the competence / confidence of health professionals in addressing these serious issues. Most notably we have connected over 4,000 individuals to treatment, including educators, families, kids - even clinicians.

September is and VNS Health in New York City has been awarded a 5-year grant to provide ***de prevention training and clinical behavioral health support. The program, Safe Pathways, is led by Deirdré De Leo, MA, LCSW, Alex Karydi, PhD, LMFT and their incredible team.

Licensed clinicians from VNS Health are available in all 5 boroughs in NYC to provide screenings, education about su***de, safety planning and supportive counseling to increase coping skills for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC youth.

Resiliency Technologies is the tech and training partner for this program. As part of Safe Pathways mission, we are excited to provide Zoom and online trainings to anyone in New York who serves youth. To that end, VNS Health is hosting a live webinar on October 4th at 3pm EST. The one hour workshop is titled "How to Teach 5MinuteMindfulness" and will focus on the evidence-based model that has been deployed in clinical, school and community settings for 20 years.

CE's are available for any LPC (through NBCC) and for New York licensed social workers and nurses (through VNS Health). Additionally, any RYT Yoga Alliance can obtain their direct contact CE's. NYC educators are invited to attend to learn practical strategies for deploying activities at the classroom level, as required by NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and NYC Department of Education.
