When Shame Shows Up (Part 4): Recover with Positive Reminders !!
Identify what leads to internal self-flagellation. Was it poor performance at work? Did someone say something that triggered it? This is your opportunity to do something different. You had a “not-so-good feeling,” and now it is time to help you recover. Change your thoughts around. Turn “I am not good enough” to “I am enough” People in your life choose to be in it because they care and you are enough.
Therapist Tip: If you were triggered by an action or lack of action on your part, write down some things you love about yourself - anything from “I make great grilled cheese to “I am a great listener.”
