Why do our eyes show age first? The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the body and it sits right next to thicker cheek skin. That contrast makes fine lines, hollows, and texture changes much more noticeable. Over time, we also lose collagen, fat, and bone support in the midface, all of which contribute to the “tired” look patients often describe.
Traditionally, lower eyelid rejuvenation has been one of the most challenging areas to treat. Fillers can restore volume but also come with risks in this delicate skin.
In this recent study, we found a great use in studying PLLA. What we found was that when placed strategically along the upper cheeks (both on bone and deep fat), PLLA not only restores support and volume there, but also indirectly improves the skin under-eye region improving the lid cheek junction. Patients saw smoother, tighter skin and a refreshed look without direct injections under the eyes.
✨ Sometimes the best way to rejuvenate one area is by treating the whole picture.
By restoring structure in the cheeks, we can lift, thicken, and improve the appearance of the under-eyes for a natural, rested look.
