PSYCHOPATHY

While not a diagnosis, psychopathy is a construct with roots as a complex neuropsychiatric condition, impacting behavior control, emotional responses, impulse control, and dysfunction in specific brain regions, particularly the prefrontal cortex and amygdala. It is often associated with anti-social behavior. All psychopaths meet criteria for antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). But not all ASPD individuals are psychopaths.

Key characteristics of psychopathy include, but are not limited to:

🔹Lack of trustworthiness or reliability
🔹Self-centeredness
🔹Bold or fearless demeanor
🔹Manipulative tendencies
🔹Callous disregard for others
🔹Anti-social behavior
🔹Sexually deviant behavior

Understanding Filicide:
A Brief Overview of Child Homicide by Parents

Filicide, the tragic act of a parent taking their child's life, is a deeply distressing phenomenon with complex motives. According to Dr. Resnick, recognized motives include altruism, acute psychosis, accidental filicide (fatal maltreatment), unwanted child, and spouse revenge filicide.

Shocking statistics reveal that child homicide by parents is alarmingly prevalent in the United States compared to other developed nations (Resnik, 2016). Of child homicides under the age of 5, over 60% are perpetrated by parents. Disturbingly, 16-29% of mothers and 40-60% of fathers who commit filicide also end their own lives.
