Individualism tells us that we’re separated through we’re genuinely interdependent upon one another. I observe workers delivering packages, serving food, shinning a spot light on performers, advising expertise and contributing to our shared experiences upon this earth.
Individualization is a stage in development where we acknowledge how we are separate from our caregivers. It’s what propels us into the world to give, serve, be and do. The thread that motivates how we wish to show up in the world. You may call that a soul path or discovering who you are meant to be in the lifetime.
Collectivism is the web and net that supports and holds us. It’s how we recognize our own humanity and vulnerabilities. It brings us into contact with what it is to be ALIVE. Human beings are most vulnerable when they are alone and isolated.
This country has allowed us our independence, our freedom and liberties. The native people that resided upon this land have suffered gravely as well as our BIPOC populations. On a land that is “meant to be for me and you”, my hope is we can see the self in another. That it’s possible to bridge the gap we’ve been taught to defend against.
Immigrants aren’t our enemies. We are all immigrants that reside upon a land that is not our own (unless you are Native American and your ancestors resided here pre Christopher Columbus).
A reminder to cultivate compassion towards those seeking a better life. Who want to build a future and be safe just as we are asking for when we rise each day to be in community. We couldn’t live without each other and all serve a purpose here.
May you remember your humanity and the light that dwells within another. If you’ve forgotten it, may you be reminded of it intermittently through your day.
