Funny Name, Serious Injury: Meet the Lisfranc Injury! đŸŠ¶

Ever heard of a Lisfranc injury? Sounds like a fancy pastry, but it’s actually a big deal in the world of foot injuries. đŸ’„

Your midfoot has a bunch of bones tightly packed together, held in place by super-strong ligaments. Normally, there’s not much movement there—and that’s a good thing! But if something forces those bones to shift (think: car crash, sports trauma, or getting your foot stuck while falling), you might end up with a Lisfranc injury—aka, a serious midfoot sprain or fracture.

📜 Fun fact: It’s named after Jacques Lisfranc, a surgeon in Napoleon’s army who noticed cavalry soldiers getting nasty foot injuries when thrown from their horses with a foot still in the stirrup. Ouch.

Today, we have much better treatments (no amputations, thankfully). đŸ› ïž Surgery is often needed if the bones are out of place, and recovery can take time—but many people do get back on their feet with the right care.

Not Just Heel Pain: What Happens When the Plantar Fascia Snaps?
You’ve probably heard of plantar fasciitis—that nagging heel pain when you get out of bed or after sitting too long. But did you know you can actually rupture your plantar fascia?

Yep. That band of tissue under your foot that supports your arch can tear completely. And trust us—you’ll know it. It’s not a slow ache like fasciitis. It’s a sharp, searing pain, often in the middle of the arch, and it can knock even elite athletes out for weeks.

Risk goes up if you have tight calves, play high-impact sports, or suddenly push your foot too far, too fast. If you're limping after a pop in your arch, don’t brush it off.

Want to know the difference between plantar fasciitis and a true rupture? We’ve got you covered.

RT : Calluses aren't always harmless. If they crack, bleed, or build uneven pressure, they can lead to infections, especially in diabetic patients. Don’t ignore them.

Classic Ankle Sprain vs. High Ankle Sprain: Not All Twists Are Equal

You step wrong, roll your ankle inward, and—ouch! That sharp pain on the outside of your ankle? That’s the classic ankle sprain—annoying but common (and likely the most frequent orthopaedic injury out there).

But then there’s its more sinister cousin... the high ankle sprain 😈.
Less common ✅
Longer to heal ✅
Way more serious ✅

High ankle sprains come from a different mechanism (think twisting your leg while the foot is planted) and can sideline you for much longer than the “standard” sprain.

Sesamoid stress fractures happen in the tiny bones under your big toe—often from repetitive load (standing, running, dancing)
💡 Key signs: pain/swelling under the big toe, trouble pushing off.
đŸŠ¶ Treatment = rest, ice, NSAIDs, stiff‑soled shoes or boot, plus rehab—and surgery only if conservative care fails
âžĄïž Prevention: proper footwear, gradual activity build-up, good strength & flexibility routines.
