TOPPLE is currently still enrolling!

Adults, 18-45 in the U.S, who’ve been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the past 4 years may be eligible for an exciting TrialNet study!

The TOPPLE Study is testing the safety of a new treatment called plasmid therapy in adults with type 1 diabetes. A plasmid is a relatively new way to carry treatment directly into cells where it can communicate with the immune system.

Pathway to Prevention screening is the first step for all TrialNet prevention studies. Screening is offered at no cost to eligible individuals to evaluate their personal risk of developing the disease. This unique screening can identify the early stages of type 1 diabetes (T1D) years before any symptoms appear.

🦸🏻‍♀️🦸🏻‍♀️⚡️ We are continuing TrialNet’s T1D Hero spotlight with 2 very special heroes: sisters Citaly & Maria! Super siblings united!⚡️✨

Both Citaly & Maria learned that they were at increased risk for type 1 diabetes (T1D) after their older brother’s diagnosis. Each strong, young woman then joined a separate TrialNet prevention study.
Citaly was diagnosed with T1D during her participation in the Exploring Immune Effects of Oral Insulin Study, under what her mother says were “the best possible circumstances.” Maria, who participated in the Abatacept Prevention Study, remains T1D-free! 🤯💙

🚨Yesterday, on November 17, the FDA approved the immunotherapy drug, teplizumab, for the delay of T1D in at-risk individuals. TrialNet was instrumental in the FDA’s approval of teplizumab as the first drug to delay T1D in people at risk. We want to take a moment to thank the other TrialNet research teams across the country. Without collective work, advancements in T1D research would not be possible! 🧬💙We are one step closer to a future without T1D!💙

Foggy vapors rise from Lilah’s icy, curly tendrils & little puffs of smoke gather about her fingertips as she twirls in relevé. Lilah glides across the room smooth as ice during dance class & finds it easy to keep her nerves cool before recitals.

Lilah became a TrialNet hero at just 4 years old after getting screened for T1D & enrolling in the Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) Prevention Study! Swipe to read more or click on the link in our bio to read her full story! ❄️⚡️✨

This hero has been in our TN-18 Abatacept Prevention Study for 9 years! 🤯

If you ask Tim what he thinks makes someone a superhero, he’ll tell you anyone can be one. “Each one of us has the ability to switch from a Clark Kent into a Superman and make life better for the next person. November is Diabetes Awareness Month! 💙 Research shows that relatives [of people with T1D] have a 15x higher risk of developing Type 1.

We urge family members to learn about their risk of developing T1D. Anyone who screens through our free health screening program, Pathway to Prevention, automatically joins TrialNet’s T1D Heroes Academy, where thousands of heroes help advance scientific research on Type 1. Today, we are explaining how T1D develops in stages. Almost all individuals who develop two or more of these diabetes-related autoantibodies (stage 1 & 2) will eventually be diagnosed with T1D (stage 3). But TrialNet is working to change that! Stay tuned for our latest research updates.💙
