During a psychedelic journey on the medicine of ketamine, studies have shown that your default mode network or DMN, aka your ego, is temporarily disrupted. It might even die. Ever heard of an ego death?

When you take ketamine medication, it can have psychedelic characteristics; current fMRI studies show excitement in the area of the brain’s cortex including the default mode network, causing dysregulation. Dysregulating the normal rhythms and patterns, behaviors, narratives… stories we tell ourselves.. about ourselves. With this default mode network temporarily dysregulated, we can create new stories, reframe old ways of thinking, have stronger relationships, make better professional choices, be more open, less rigid, dance, paint, create, learn…

Meet Dr. Eric Chaghouri our Medical Director and Collaborative Psychiatrist He is a 2007 graduate from UCLA, and earned his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine in 2011. After completing residency, Dr. Chaghouri accepted a fellowship position in forensic psychiatry at the prestigious USC Institute of Psychiatry and Law. Dr. Chaghouri’s interests include addiction medicine, substance use disorders, forensic psychiatry, medical ethics, psychological autopsy, gender wellness, and evidence-based treatment of psychiatric conditions.
