“Some things you go to school for, but other things you can learn by asking.” – Jill Buckley, Resident at Coterie Cathedral Hill

Jill didn’t set out to become one of the top media consultants in the country. It all started when she heard a woman on the radio lamenting over leftover donuts at her precinct’s caucus meeting due to low attendance. After hearing the rant, Jill decided someone ought to care who gets elected and she and her husband attended their next caucus meeting.

She showed up, asked questions, and kept learning. For 30 years, she helped shape political campaigns, taking her all the way from her dining room table to the national stage. She was often the only woman hired to lead the work. She produced speeches, ads, and the Democratic Party’s national response to Ronald Reagan’s State of the Union address – a live broadcast she both wrote and produced.

This Women’s Equality Day, we honor women like Jill, who paved the way by doing the work and bringing others with them.

We celebrated the spirit of the great outdoors during our recent Social Series event!

Residents at Coterie Hudson Yards visited the rooftop habitats at the Javits Center, learning about bees, bats, and birds.

At Coterie Cathedral Hill, residents learned about animals that are native to California and heard from a local beekeeper.

Everyone enjoyed celebrating the wonders of the outdoors!

Residents at Coterie Hudson Yards spent the afternoon at the The New York Historical for a guided tour of Blacklisted: An American Story. The exhibit offered a powerful look at the lives impacted by the Hollywood blacklist and the government investigations into the entertainment industry.

“Whether it’s finding the right dress or the right apartment, it’s about helping people through big, emotional decisions,” shares Ellie Kirke, a Community Sales Director at Coterie Hudson Yards. Before helping older adults find the right home, she helped brides say yes to the dress as a consultant on the hit show Say Yes to the Dress.

Now, she brings that same empathy and intuition to senior living. “It’s not just about where you’ll live—it’s about what kind of life you want to live,” she shares.

Ellie considers the residents at Coterie part of her extended family. “They bring me joy, they ground me, and I feel lucky every day to be part of their story.”

“Even small things we do can make a huge difference in their day.”

Dani, Transportation Manager at Coterie Hudson Yards, has worked at the community since before opening day – and has been part of nearly every resident’s journey since. “I’ve helped move in 99% of our residents,” he says. “I know their families, their routines, their preferences. When they see me, they relax. They know they’re in good hands.”

One of Dani’s favorite memories? Weekly pizza runs with a resident who loved to try new spots, then working together to leave Google reviews. After the resident passed, Dani kept the tradition going with his wife – a special ritual they still share.

From Sunday church to Broadway shows, Dani and his team manage up to 20 rides a day – always with patience, care and a personal touch.

We celebrated Independence Day with incredible food and live music.

Residents enjoyed classic summertime favorites – from lobster rolls to BBQ ribs – alongside festive cocktails, great company and rooftop views of the fireworks.

A culinary showdown to remember!

Residents and guests at Coterie Hudson Yards enjoyed an unforgettable afternoon as celebrity chefs Maneet Chauhan and Michel Nischan joined Coterie’s own Chad Welch for a live cooking competition. The event was emceed by celebrity chef and TV personality Rocco DiSpirito, who brought his signature charm to the event. Each chef was paired with a resident sous-chef to create a dish using a surprise ingredient – The Chana Masala Cauliflower Soup from Wholesome Crave, a brand regularly featured on the Coterie menu.

We’re so grateful for the amazing friends who came together to create such an amazing event.

Congratulations to Chef Chauhan and her sous-chef, Walter, whose winning dish was their take on a walking taco with shrimp.
