Yesterday, we hosted ASAPS past president, Dr. Melinda Haws, and heard all about the cutting edge of aesthetic surgery (pun intended).

We learned about the way the landscape of aesthetic surgery has changed over the years, the opportunity for academic medicine in the field of aesthetics, and got hands on experience in our cadaver lab.

We can’t wait to meet her again at the aesthetic society meeting. Thank you for your wisdom, Dr. Haws!

We had the best time hosting Greg Evans, Chair of Plastic Surgery at UC Irvine and current President of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, at UCSF!

From high-yield lectures to next-level case discussions (and plenty of pearls in between), it was an inspiring day all around. Even better—getting to continue the conversations over lunch with our residents.

We were honored to host Dr. J. P. Hong, Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Ulsan and Asan Medical Center, as our Visiting Professor this week.

Dr. Hong presented an inspiring overview of his career trajectory, spanning foundational work in diabetic limb salvage to contemporary innovations in microsurgery, including ultra-thin ALT and SCIP flaps, as well as the evolving role of lymphatic surgery in neurologic pathology.

His lectures emphasized that progress comes from questioning assumptions, learning from failures, and continuing to push beyond perceived limits. The future belongs to those who imagine what is possible.

On behalf of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency Leadership, we want to thank all our residents for all of their hard work throughout the year! ⭐️
We are extremely thankful to our residents and fellows for the dedication, positive energy and compassionate care they bring to their roles every day, from caring for our patients, to mentoring our medical students!
Residency is a key component of graduate medical training, offering an in-depth exposure to medical practice. This annual recognition is led by the Gold Humanism Honor Society to recognize resident/fellow physicians and celebrate their invaluable contributions.

👄 Cleft Lip & Palate Skills Lab 👄
👶🏾👶🏻 Another fantastic session led by our Craniofacial Surgeons, Drs. Pomerantz, Hoffman and Lin, who guided us through a review of cleft lip and palate anatomy, surgical markings, and finally surgical techniques. We got to practice using models provided by ! This skills lab augmented our experience in Pediatric and Craniofacial Surgery, allowing us to practice and finesse our understanding of complex topics in a low stress environment. 👶🏿👶🏼
👏👏 Huge thank you to Dr. Pomerantz for an interactive lecture, Dr. Hoffman for his words and pearls of wisdom, and Dr. Lin for taking time to help us nail the details of where to mark each point and cut! And a special thanks to Ryan Edwards from Stryker for supplying us with the tools to learn. 🔪 🪛
We are so appreciative of Dr. Kim for investing the time in our education. The UCSF Plastic Surgery Skills Lab is unparalleled! 💯

🌟Wishing a big congratulations to Dr. Alexander Lin who was recently announced as a 2023 Kunal Patel UCSF Catalyst Awardee for his project titled “Improving Health Equity of Children with Cleft Palate - Artificial Intelligence to Improve Early Detection of Surgical Speech Problems.”🌟

✨We’re so lucky to have Dr. Lin as one of our faculty members at UCSF! He operates primarily out of the Benioff Children’s Hospital with locations in both San Francisco and Oakland!✨
