A new AI-powered system combining a high-speed video camera with an algorithm shows promise for detecting high blood pressure and diabetes quickly and without contact, potentially bypassing the need for blood tests or traditional monitoring devices.
Developed in Japan, this early-stage technology accurately identified hypertension and diabetes in a preliminary study, capturing subtle changes in blood flow on participants' faces and hands.
With further refinement, the system may enable at-home health screenings and improve access to early diagnosis and treatment for those hesitant about invasive tests.
However, these findings, presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2024, are preliminary, pending validation in diverse populations and real-world settings.
