APA Family Support Services

APA Family Support Services APAFSS’s mission is to promote healthy children and families.

We advocate for culturally competent services through education, community building, and leadership development. We strengthen low-moderate income families in San Francisco with a comprehensive set of services to prevent and treat problems that may occur as a result of stress, barriers and challenges of language, finances, and lack of resources.

Fresh Fruit for Our Community – Thank You, Whole Foods! 🍎🍌🍊

We’re grateful to Whole Foods Market for donating 264 lbs of fresh fruit — apples, bananas, and oranges — to our organization. These were distributed to community members at our 1099 center.

This was a one-time donation, but we’re working to develop long-term partnerships with grocery stores to expand access to fresh, healthy food. With our new center at 4377 Mission opening in mid-September, we hope to also provide food to families in that neighborhood, as our current culturally appropriate food program does not yet cover the Excelsior area.

Grocery stores are required to comply with SB1383 — a California law aimed at reducing food waste. We’re eager to be part of the movement to make good use of surplus food, reduce waste, and ensure it reaches those who need it most.

We welcome opportunities for food and in-kind donations as we grow these programs. Together, we can make fresh, nutritious food more accessible to our communities. 💚

Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) 2025 Report Released!

APAFSS is proud to share that, on behalf of the Asian & Pacific Islander Health Parity Coalition (APIHPC), our Executive Director, F***y Lam, served as Co-Chair in 2024 and led the CHNA 2025 process with the support of a consultant.
The CHNA 2025 report is now live at https://lnkd.in/gVMcNPrH

This milestone reflects months of collaborative work to ensure the assessment truly represents our diverse communities. Partnering with the API, Latino, and African American Health Equity Coalitions and local hospitals, the process involved multiple interviews, focus groups, and extensive community engagement to identify San Francisco’s most pressing health needs.

We are honored to contribute to a comprehensive, equity-driven plan that will guide strategies to improve health outcomes for all residents.

📣 Our Agency Hosts Outreach Table at Excelsior Night Market🌟

This July and August, our agency proudly hosted outreach tables at the vibrant Excelsior Night Market to connect with local families and share more about the services we offer. It was wonderful to see families with kids stop by, learn about our work, and engage with us!

We’re thrilled to announce that our new Family Resource Center on 4377 Mission Street, Excelsior will be opening soon! With a bigger space and a more prominent presence, we’ll be able to provide even more essential support and services to families in need.

Stay tuned for updates as we prepare to open our doors in the coming weeks. Together, we’re building stronger, more resilient communities! ❤️

🌟 Financial Education Workshop led by Redwood Credit Union 🌟

Recently we had the privilege of hosting a financial education workshop for our parents at the Chinatown Family Resource Center, led by the amazing team at Redwood Credit Union (RCU)! 💰📚

The workshop was packed with valuable insights on a variety of topics, including:
✅ Types of Accounts RCU Offers: High-yield savings accounts, youth accounts, and college savings accounts.
✅ General Financial and Savings Accounts: Helping families understand how to save for the future.
✅ Savings for Children's Education: Tips on preparing for college and beyond.
✅ Understanding & Choosing Your Financial Institution: Key factors to consider when deciding where to manage your money.
✅ Fraud Awareness: How to protect your finances in an increasingly digital world.

Participants had the opportunity to ask questions during the presentation, and RCU provided clear, actionable answers during each section. Parents especially appreciated the insights into savings accounts for children’s future education and strategies to avoid financial fraud.

A huge THANK YOU to redwoodcreditunion for empowering our families with the tools and knowledge to achieve their financial goals. 🌱💸

Expanding Our Culturally Appropriate Food Program to Serve More Families

We’re excited to announce that this fiscal year, our Culturally Appropriate Food Program will expand to serve 554 families—a significant increase from the 335 families we supported last year.🥦🥬

We will continue to serve our core communities in Visitacion Valley–Sunnydale and Chinatown, ensuring that families across these neighborhoods have access to nutritious, culturally relevant food that reflects their traditions and values.🍛

This program does more than provide meals—it strengthens cultural identity, supports healthy families, and protects food security for some of the most under-resourced households in our city.

We’re proud to share that participants consistently report high satisfaction, noting the quality of food, the cultural relevance of the selections, and the dignified experience of receiving support that honors their background.

Thank you to our partners and supporters who make this vital work possible. Together, we’re not just feeding families—we’re uplifting communities.
