From a family van to a full-size truck — our food recovery work just leveled up. 🚛

APAFSS is proud to announce our new collaboration with Food Connect!

It started scrappy: our staff and their families volunteering their own vehicles to recover cosmetically imperfect — but completely edible — produce from SF Market, keeping good food out of landfills and onto the tables of families in need.

Thanks to Food Connect, families at our new Excelsior center now benefit from:
🚛 Larger trucks to nearly double the food we recover
📦 Reliable logistics for pickup and drop-off
🌿 More culturally appropriate food that reflects the communities we serve

More families. More food. More dignity.

Huge gratitude to SF Market, our dedicated staff, and Food Connect for making this possible.

🌱 Great session at our monthly staff meeting!

Thank you to the team from for an informative and practical presentation on proper waste sorting and recycling.

Our staff learned in detail how to correctly separate waste into Compost, Landfill, and Recycle streams. We now have a much clearer understanding of what items can be composted, what goes into recycling, and how to do it the right way.

Every small improvement in our daily sorting habits brings us one step closer to a cleaner and greener environment.

Together, we’re making a real difference! 💚

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month—a time to reflect on the role we all play in protecting children and strengthening families.

At APA Family Support Services, we are deeply committed to prevention and to supporting healthy child development in our communities. In partnership with Child Protective Services (CPS), we work to prevent child abuse by providing families with the resources, guidance, and support they need to create safe, stable, and nurturing environments.

Every day, our team walks alongside families navigating challenges. Child abuse prevention is a shared responsibility.

This month, we honor those dedicated to this work and reaffirm our commitment to protecting children and supporting families—every day of the year.

🌟 From Isolation to Empowerment: a client’s Inspiring Journey with APAFSS

When 20-year-old NP first arrived from mainland China, she was quietly battling depression, language barriers, and undiagnosed ADHD. Withdrawn and overwhelmed, she poured herself into art and games while avoiding school, friends, and any talk about her future. Avoidance had become her shield.

But something beautiful happened when we met her where she was—through the things she loved most: art and gaming. Slowly, we helped her reimagine academics not as pressure, but as the bridge to her dream of creating her own video games.

With patience, creativity, and consistent support, NP began turning in assignments, embracing English learning, and setting real goals for college. Her mother joined parent counseling, and together we connected the family with a psychiatrist. For the first time, NP felt grounded, hopeful, and truly seen.

When her mother had to return to mainland China and food insecurity hit, our entire APAFSS team stepped up—linking arms across therapy, case management, and our food pantry to deliver emergency groceries, SNAP guidance, and unwavering care.

Today, NP is more connected to her mom, focused on her future, and stepping confidently into her potential. 💪

This is the power of holistic, culturally responsive support—therapy + family work + practical help—wrapped in compassion.

At APAFSS, we don’t just treat challenges… we walk alongside young immigrants as they build the lives they dream of.

💕 Celebrating Our Amazing Moms at 1099 Sunnydale Ave!

Last week, our center was filled with joy, laughter, and connection as we hosted two beautiful Baby Showers for Spanish- and English-speaking moms and moms-to-be — including new moms with babies 12 months old and under — at our center located at 1099 Sunnydale Ave. 💕👶

It was a wonderful opportunity for participants to connect with fellow moms, build community, and discover valuable local resources available to support their families. We are especially grateful to our sponsor, Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal, for sharing important community resources and helping make this event possible. 💙

Moms also took part in an empowering mental health seminar focused on self-care — a meaningful reminder that caring for yourself is just as important as caring for your little one. 🧠✨

The celebrations included fun games, thoughtful gifts, and plenty of smiles all around! 🎁🎉

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped create such a warm, supportive space for our families. We look forward to continuing to uplift and celebrate our amazing moms! 💐
