For years, Mira struggled with chronic pain, relying on costly alternative treatments that offered little relief. Mira had received acupuncture for nearly 30 years at a Chinese-American school that recently closed. In search of continued care, she turned to a private practice, where each session cost $140 and provided minimal benefit. Over the following months, she visited multiple practitioners, hoping to find something that would finally help.

Here at Rafiki, we provide accessible, culturally affirming care so community members like Mira can receive the support they need without financial barriers. Through our clinic services, Mira found compassionate care, renewed hope, and a path forward in her healing journey.

This Black History Month, our Executive Director reflects on the role of third spaces in Black communities and why they are essential to our health and well-being.

In her latest Executive Letter, she shares how community spaces have long been places to gather, organize, heal, and care for one another. For more than four decades, Rafiki Coalition has served as one of those trusted spaces in San Francisco, offering culturally rooted care, connection, and support without judgment.

Join Rafiki Coalition and for an informative health talk on sickle cell anemia and the importance of Blood Donation in our community.

Sickle cell anemia is a genetic disorder where red blood cells become rigid and “sickle-shaped,” clogging blood vessels and preventing oxygen from reaching the rest of the body. This leads to severe pain, organ damage, and a life expectancy that often only reaches the 40s.

Sickle Cell Anemia Awareness San Francisco (SCAASF) advocates for quality, compassionate healthcare and works to eliminate the stigmas that prevent patients from being heard and empower the community through education.

Register for our Health Talk to learn more.
