This quote gets to the heart of what a community-centered organization Rafiki Coalition is. We see people not just as people but as family. And the people who come to Rafiki naturally build bonds with our staff and return for more free, culturally affirming care.

Rafiki Coalition is truly the Black community’s friend in health and wellness. Our impact is not only in the health and wellness programs and services we provide but also in our ability to connect with, relate to, and uplift our community members. We’ve been serving the community for 40 years and look forward to serving it for 40 more!

That’s why we’re celebrating this milestone with a 40th Anniversary Summer Soirée and we encourage you all to join us in celebrating four decades of community healing.

Here are all the Rafiki programs happening this week.

We’re closed today in observance of Memorial Day, but we encourage you to check out our line dancing class this week or our Presidio hike. These are great ways to stay active this week!

Also, are you a new mom trying to navigate parenting and looking for some help? If so, we encourage you to join our weekly Black Mama’s Wellness Group or email BeWell@rafikicoalition.org to learn about the other mothers’ support groups we offer.

Our community market will be back open next Monday, by appointment only to provide FREE groceries to Bayview residents. We encourage you to sign up today using the link in our bio.

It is with profound honor that we announce Congresswoman Lateefah Simon, U.S. Representative for California’s 12th Congressional District, Deputy Whip for Policy, and Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, as a Political Champion Service Award honoree at our 40th Anniversary Soirée.
 
Congresswoman Simon has spent her career doing what Rafiki has always done: showing up for the people the system was built to overlook, and refusing to accept that it has to be this way.
 
Her work — from criminal justice reform to transit equity to her current role representing California’s 12th District — is rooted in the same philosophy that founded Rafiki in 1986: that community-led change is the only change that lasts.
 
Her journey is a testament to an unwavering commitment to social justice, social equity, and the preservation of Black families. We’re honored to celebrate her alongside our 40th anniversary.

First Saturday is a community event offering fellowship, healing discussions, enjoyable activities, nutritious food, music, and so much more! No event is the same, but each one exemplifies what Rafiki Coalition stands for: community healing and whole-person care.

We’ve spent 40 years putting together events like this to celebrate health and wellness, provide access to various health resources, and create welcoming spaces that promote living an active, healthy lifestyle. Our work empowers people to take a holistic approach to their health that encompasses all aspects of their wellbeing. Valuing and improving the lives of each person who enters our space, that is how we uplift our community.

This June, our 40th Anniversary Summer Soirée is a celebration of Rafiki Coalition’s decades of community impact and healing, and we invite you to join us.

We are honored to recognize , a multi-generational San Franciscan born in the historic Fillmore community and former CEO of the , for his lifetime of service to our community.

Chuck has spent his life creating spaces where people from all backgrounds can thrive and access the resources needed to lead a fulfilling life. His commitment to community wellness and equity-centered partnerships is the same essence of the “village” that Rafiki has built since 1986.

Our history is defined by collective care. From the transitional housing provided at Brandy Moore House to our Rafiki Community Market, we believe food and housing are crucial to culture, joy, dignity, and overall wellbeing. Chuck’s legacy of leadership across the public and private sectors reflects these same values.

Rafiki Coalition stands for the health and wellness needs of African Americans in the Bayview community within San Francisco. We make sure that everyone who enters our spaces feels welcomed and receives the quality, culturally affirming care they need. We’re here to support our community on their wellness journey and provide people with access to care, mental health support, movement activities, community events, complementary alternative medicine services, and other resources they need to thrive.

This is work Rafiki Coalition has dedicated itself to for 40 years and we’re celebrating this milestone with a Summer Soirée. This is a fundraising event where we’ll be celebrating our impact and champions in Black health equity. We have been a staple in the San Francisco community for over 40 years, working tirelessly to provide San Francisco’s black community with access to quality, culturally relevant health and wellness resources.
