📖 Author Reading with Fanyela Weinberg 📖
San Francisco Towers recently enjoyed a special reading by resident and author, Fanyela Weinberg, from her memoir Out of Tyranny: A Journey to Freedom. In it, she shares her family’s escape from communist Romania — a story of resilience, sacrifice, and the pursuit of freedom.
Fanyela’s reflections brought history to life in a personal way, offering not just a glimpse into history but a universal reminder of resilience and determination. During the reception that followed, she signed books for fellow residents. Congratulations, Fanyela, on this inspiring achievement and thanks to Helen R and the Program Committee for another wonderful event.

🍴 Wednesday Nights at San Francisco Towers
Every Wednesday, residents enjoy a Chef’s Dinner—a showcase of the creativity and skill of our culinary team.
Recently, our newly promoted Executive Chef, Dontee, and his team received rave reviews:
• “In my 11 years as a resident, I’ve never had a dinner as good as last night’s. It was conceived well, cooked well, served well—and even looked good.”
• “Tonight’s chef’s dinner was as good as one in a five-star restaurant.”
• “Excellent chef’s dinner. Everyone is impressed.”
👏 Congratulations to Dontee, Charlie, and the entire SFT dining team for creating such memorable experiences. This is just one of the many ways Front Porch’s partnership with CCL enhances community life.

At San Francisco Towers, transparency and collaboration are cornerstones of our community.
The Towers’ leadership hosted an open meeting to walk residents through existing and potential capital projects being considered for the upcoming budget. From infrastructure updates to quality-of-life enhancements, the discussion reflected our shared commitment to keeping residents informed and involved.
Thank you to everyone who participated, asked thoughtful questions, and shared feedback. Your voice matters—and it helps shape the future of our community.

🛍️ Annual White Elephant Sale 🛍️
Our annual White Elephant Sale was a hit once again. Residents and staff browsed through tables of gently used jewelry, housewares, clothing, artwork, and a variety of odds and ends — and walked away with some real finds.
Proceeds from the sale go directly to our Employee Appreciation Fund, a simple way to give back to the team that supports our community every day.
Thanks to all who donated, shopped, and helped make this year's sale a huge success.

Art, History, and Resilience Take Center Stage at San Francisco Towers
Resident Helen R. and the Program Committee recently hosted an engaging author talk with writer Pamela Reitman, who discussed her new book Charlotte Salomon Paints her Life: A Novel. The book follows real-life painter Charlotte Salomon as she works to complete her major artistic project under the shadow of the Third Reich.
Pamela shared a slideshow of Salomon’s artwork and photographs, and spoke about how art can transform trauma and how historical fiction blends fact and storytelling.
It was an insightful event and a great example of the diverse programming offered at San Francisco Towers.

Please join us in welcoming our new Chaplain, Stacey Grossman!
Stacey recently led her first service and is settling into life at The Towers. An Episcopal priest ordained at Grace Cathedral in 1997, Stacey brings deep experience as a parish leader, transition specialist, and hospital chaplain.
She holds degrees from Pomona College, NYU, and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, and has taught spiritual care in many settings. Outside of ministry, Stacey enjoys time with her Corgi, Dazzle, creating art, competitive rowing, exploring Yosemite, and contemplative photography.
We are delighted to have her with us!

San Francisco Towers’ residents Cathy and Howard M. recently enjoyed a day of birdwatching with acclaimed author and artist Amy Tan and Jack Dumbacher, Curator of Birds and Mammals at the California Academy of Sciences.

The outing was inspired by Amy’s newest book, The Backyard Bird Chronicles — a personal journal of sketches and reflections that captures her growing connection to the birds visiting her deck.
What a beautiful day of nature, art, and shared curiosity!

San Francisco Towers residents came together with the Front Porch Communities Foundation for a joy-filled
and meaningful celebration in support of the Circle of Friends Fund — a vital program that helps fellow residents who may outlive their financial resources.

This year’s event featured a vibrant reception, a special menu crafted by our talented dining team with support from Morrison Living, and heartfelt performances of original songs and skits by our own residents — all underscoring the importance of caring for one another.

It was a lovely evening of connection, creativity, and community — and a powerful reminder of the compassion that defines life at San Francisco Towers.
