We are recruiting T32 research fellows for positions. The fellowship will prepare anesthesiologists and related specialists for academic research careers! Preference is for applicants who will have completed anesthesiology residency by the time of the fellowship. Candidates must be US citizens or permanent residents and able to commit to a 2-year program.

Congratulations to Mina Khorashadi, MD, Cardiac Anesthesia Fellow Amy Locke, MD, and CA2 Resident Zachary Lerner, MD, for the part they all played in the groundbreaking first total artificial heart procedure at UCSF!

The UCSF Cardiac Surgery team performed the successful surgery! A total artificial heart device temporarily supports function on both sides of the heart allowing patients with heart failure to wait for a heart transplant.

Our very own Odmara Barreto Chang, MD, PhD attended the 2024 National Diversity in STEM (NDiSTEM) Conference hosted by SACNAS Advancing Hispanics/Chicanos & Native Americans in Science in Phoenix last month. Dr. Barreto Chang presented a session titled "Translating Personal Resilience into Professional Success," and visited posters related to our department's DEI activities.

We are proud of the hard work of Dr. Barreto Chang and her contributions to that SACNAS vision of achieving True Diversity in STEM!!

So proud of all the work Odmara Barreto Chang, MD, PhD, and others on the ASA Committee on Professional Diversity do to make the ASA Doctors Back to School (DBTS) event happen each year!! This impactful program aims to provide hands-on exposure to medicine for students underrepresented in the medical fields.

Feeling so grateful for our amazing Department of Anesthesia community. Leah Pimentel, our Director of Culture and Belonging, organized virtual cooking lessons for the department and over 90 folks took part -- preparing amazing meals at home, building community, and learning new culinary skills along the way!!
