Jannah was our go-to for the first get-together in person that OWL has had since the pandemic social-distancing began, and it couldn't have been better! The food was scrumptious and the service impeccable. The family--Yaya (the cook), Wafa (our server) and Hadi (their son)--has run this restaurant for many years and has a warmth that made everyone feel at home. There was so much joy on the faces of OWL members, so many colorful Christmas "dressings," and so many extraordinary dishes! Here in photos taken by Joan Downey, who arranged this luncheon, you see our president Glenda Hope being honored with flowers presented by Louise DiMattio as well as other members finally together again!

OWL member Kathy Mata announces that there will be open rehearsals of the Kathy Mata Ballet starting Sunday, September 26. Here's what she says:

"We finally are on track now with rehearsals officially on Sunday afternoon after class. Class finishes after 3:00 p.m. and we need to get ourselves organized and set up so coming around 3:15 p.m. would be great for people to come and see us.

"The official date is Sunday, September 26th. We need a few weeks to get ourselves in proper order before people come.
We will have chairs and there is no set date so people can observe when they want to come."

Senator Cory Booker and Congressman A. Donald McEachin are re-introducing
the ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE LEGACY POLLUTION ACT

In our nation, the biggest determining factors of whether you live near toxic pollution, drink contaminated water, or breathe dirty air are the color of your skin and your economic status.

Communities of color, Indigenous communities, and low-income communities disproportionately bear these burdens, resulting higher rates of cancer, birth defects, autism, and countless other avoidable illnesses.

If included in infrastructure legislation currently being created, this act would would allocate $200 billion to:
Accelerate the cleanup of toxic Superfund sites
Replace over 50% of diesel school buses with zero emission buses
Commit $25 billion to urban tree planting initiatives
Remediate lead-based paint hazards in low income housing
Build and renovate sanitation infrastructure, which will bring safe drinking water and adequate sewage systems to every American Indian and Alaskan Native household, and more
Encourage our elected officials to co-sponsor this legislation, addressing both the climate crisis and structural racism.

Forward this to your friends across the country, urging them to contact their own senators and representatives.
