Excessively stretched muscles cause microtears causing inflammation, which leads to adhesion formation. This weblike material limits your range of motion and can lead to injury.

A great example is those with rounded shoulders or poor postural control. The back muscles are constantly stretched in a flexed forward position. This leaves their mid-back tight with little thoracic mobility and puts the rotator cuff muscles in a more compromised position.

Though there are many corrective changes that need to be done, one can start with: 1) Foam rolling the mid-back to help with mobility. This helps put the body in extension and open up the rib cage.
2) Buy a posture necklace to help improve your alignment and create better movement patterns.

Make an appointment to learn what corrective changes you can make to prevent future injury.

It saddens me when I am taking history on a patient, and they pull out a bag of medications they are taking. I want to be able to enjoy my golden years with family and friends without worrying about my health. To do this, I must be proactive and advocate for myself. It is up to me to understand the facts about what's going on with my health.

The next time you are given a diagnosis and a prescription, ask how and why you got to this point and what can be done to reverse it, or at least keep things from getting worse. The prescription is a band-aid and later in life you may have to take another pill from the side effects of the pill you took. Take control of your health. You only have one YOU, so make it a healthy one.

Slouching, dysfunctional movement patterns, improper form when exercising, and excessive weight are some ways to stress the joints in our spine which then impacts our discs.

Once you lose you disc space it can be very painful. It is beneficial to be proactive about your health so you can enjoy life without pain and discomfort as you age.

TIPS TO A HEALTHIER SPINE:

1) Chiropractic Adjustments🙌
2) Corrective Exercise💪
3) Standing desk instead of sitting (try at least part of your day)🧍‍♀️
4) Stop Slouching (use devices that alert you when slouching)
5) Movement with proper body mechanics🏃‍♀️
6) Learn how to properly hinge your hips and not slump low back
7) Core exercises
8) Yoga 🧘‍♀️
9) Bodywork💆‍♀️

Any questions feel free to ask or make an appointment!

When you slouch forward for many years you start to permanently change the structure of your spine which then changes how your body functions and performs.

A QUICK AND EASY WAY TO HELP you with body mechanics is KTape (sports tape)

1) Have a friend tape along the sides of your spine from the neck down to your lower mid back.

This will give your brain constant feedback about your posture and a quick way for your brain to create new movement patterns and take the stress off your body.😁

Did you know chronic sleep disturbances can lead to memory loss?

Our sleep-wake cycle is regulated by the circadian rhythm, an internal biological clock located in our brain. When the circadian rhythm is consistently unbalanced, it can lead to long-term cognitive decline, including memory deficits. It even increases your risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

WHAT’S HAPPENING WHEN WE SLEEP?

The body and mind are literally cleaning house. Cells are repairing and regenerating in the body and in the brain. Lack of sleep causes a build of “junk” which can interfere with neurons trying to communicate.

When REM sleep happens, memories are formed and stored in the brain. Having difficulty retaining and recalling information?

When we sleep synaptic plasticity occurs. This is our brain's ability to gather new information and store it. Lack of sleep will affect the brain's ability to encode and store memories effectively. Having issues with new information?

Sleep disruptions can lead to imbalances in neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine, dopamine, and norepinephrine, all of which play in memory formation and retrieval and so much more!

Lack of sleep increases oxidative stress in the brain. This can damage neurons and negatively impact memory-related processes. It can also contribute to the accumulation of toxic proteins, associated with memory disorders like Alzheimer's disease.

IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY BY:

Decrease Stress

Do not play with electronics before bedtime, even if they are in nighttime mode.

Try to remember appointments and tasks without your phone. You are exercising parts of your brain that need help when you do this.

Exercise. Bonus if you can involve memory games with exercise.

Play memory games.

Constant knee pain?

The knee is part of a complex system of bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments that work together to support and stabilize the joint. Any disruption or imbalance above or below the joint can lead to knee pain.

Weakness in the gluteal muscles can cause an improper stabilized hip and pelvis during walking or running, leading to excessive stress on the knee joint.

If the calf muscles are tight, it can cause the foot to point downward, which can put increased stress on the knee joint.

If the shin muscles are weak, it can cause the foot to flatten and roll inward, which can also lead to increased stress on the knee joint.

Schedule a new patient appointment today and receive a full body movement analysis.

Get the body working in harmony and get back to doing the things you love again!

Fish oils, Omega 3-6-9, are very important fatty acids with their own unique benefits for health. When buying fish oils, try to buy ones that contain a high amount of EPA/DHA (1000-5000mg per day). These Omega 3s have been linked to brain and heart health as well as decreasing inflammation.

Our bodies do not produce large amounts of these and it's important to either supplement or consume it. Consuming a balance of all three Omegas through a healthy diet can help support optimal health.
