UCSF Stroke Recovery Initiative

UCSF Stroke Recovery Initiative The Stroke Recovery Initiative was developed by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

The Stroke Recovery Initiative was developed by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in order to identify potential participants for current and future clinical research studies of stem cell therapies for stroke or other interventions. Specific studies that use the Stroke Recovery Initiative may involve stem cell-based therapies, neurosurgical procedures, physical ther

apy, or other interventions. Individual studies may have a follow-up period to assess the effects of the treatments. Some of the tests used to determine eligibility and the effects of the treatment may include CT and MRI scans, blood tests, and physical exams.

"A compound produced in the gut when we eat red meat damages our arteries and may play a key role in boosting risk of heart disease as we get older, according to new University of Colorado Boulder research."

Eat a slab of steak and your resident gut bacteria get to work immediately to break it down. But new research shows that a metabolic byproduct, called TMAO, produced in the process can be toxic to the lining of arteries, making them age faster.

A new study published in the American Heart Association's journal Stroke, finds people who drink large amounts of alcohol have nearly fivefold odds of experiencing a potentially deadly type of stroke compared with those who drink very little or not at all.

A biomarker that measures alcohol consumption shows those who drink more are much more likely to have bleeding strokes than those who drink very little, a new study finds.

Young patients with no risk factors for stroke may have an increased risk if they have contracted COVID-19, whether or not they are showing symptoms of the disease through preliminary observations by surgeons at Thomas Jefferson University and collaborators.

Preliminary observations suggest a high incidence of COVID-19 in stroke patients, including younger patients who were otherwise healthy.
