We are working with some really outstanding people (Candace Combs, London Elise, and Supervisor Ronen) to find a solution, other than putting 70 small business out of business. 54 individual businesses received cease and desist notices.
The notices were served because the building is not zoned for personal service of any kind, this was not disclosed to any of us when we rented space from AS, 100% of those served had no idea until getting the notice. Massage Therapist were the first group to be targeted by the city, but the remaining 250 tenants, most of which are personal services (Psychologist, chiropractors, physical therapist, tattoo artist, hair stylist, speech therapist, etc.) will eventually be served if we are not successful in our efforts to have the zoning changed.
It has been a turbulent two weeks but things are going in the right direction, thank you so much to those who have written letters of support for me and my practice. It is a honor to serve, and care for the folks in SF! and I hope to continue!
I will update, as information develops.
The City of San Francisco has sent eviction notices to over 50 business owners who work out of a building in the Mission District, giving them less than a month to move.
