“How many of the ‘challenges’ around being in a fat body would be mitigated if superfat people were treated like human beings? Instead of trying to make us thinner, what if healthcare providers just tried to care for us?” —Julianne Wotasik, Food Psych Weekly newsletter
In next week's edition of the newsletter, my wonderful admin assistant Julianne answers a reader question about whether there can really be health at *every* size, and how healthcare providers can truly help improve the well-being of people at the highest end of the weight spectrum.

“Every single one of us can do things that no one else can do — can love things that no one else can love. We are like violins. We can be used for doorstops, or we can make music.”

Watch now or save for a moment when you could use some guidance and support to reduce a stressful experience that is swirling around in your mind and body.

A kind and gentle video that reminds you how to quiet the noise and step into self-compassion.

I have read many posts about Weight Watchers creating a program for children to diet. Many people find this incredibly distressful. I think the program can cause harm. I also see an opportunity for this conversation to get more attention. Teaching people to rely on external “programming” vs. listening to our own bodies is an important topic I’d like to see elevated in our national discourse. I wonder if the backlash on WW could serve to highlight Intuitive eating as a better goal than “smallness”. Fear of fatness is palpable. It’s so deeply ingrained in our culture it will be a profound healing if we can root it out. The only way we can help root it out of our culture is to lovingly offer ourselves compassion for where it still exists in us. Many people were triggered by the Weight Watchers announcement. For many of us it is a reliving of childhood trauma and body shame learned very young. If this was your experience, consider offering your younger self some love and acceptance. This is a pretty standard “reparenting” technique used by therapists. You as the adult now, can access the child-you and speak to yourself lovingly. I did this this week as I remembered feeling a great deal of body shame as a 6 year old. The shame dissipates when we offer ourselves this gift. I’m not traumatized by fat phobia anymore. This is healing. This is freedom. This is available to all of us. And as healed humans, I really think we can heal the world. 💚💖💙
