šŸ’œ October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month šŸ’œ

Every October, we come together to shine a light on the survivors of domestic violence — and the ongoing healing that follows. At Sara Sanford Therapy, I work with adults, teens, and couples across California who have experienced trauma in relationships — whether emotional, physical, financial, or post-separation abuse.

Healing from abuse takes time, safety, and compassion. My Castro-based psychotherapy practice offers both in-person and virtual therapy, helping clients rebuild trust in themselves, strengthen boundaries, and rediscover a sense of calm and empowerment.

If you’re seeking a trauma-informed therapist in San Francisco who understands the complexities of abuse recovery — including coercive control, narcissistic dynamics, and attachment trauma — you don’t have to go through it alone.

✨ Together, we can rewrite your story — one rooted in safety, connection, and self-worth.

I’m not an ā€œAnger Managementā€ therapist. I’m a trauma therapist.

Week after week, I hear from people - especially survivors - reaching out because they believe they need help controlling their anger. They say things like:

ā€œI don’t know why I react this way.ā€

ā€œI think I need anger management.ā€

ā€œIt’s probably just meā€¦ā€

But often, what they’re really carrying is a history of trauma that has never been fully acknowledged - by others or by themselves.

Anger, in these cases, isn’t the problem.

It’s the symptom of something deeper: unmet needs, chronic invalidation, unresolved grief, or pain that was forced underground for too long.

And while we’ve been taught to shame our reactions, minimize our responses, and label ourselves as ā€œtoo much,ā€ I see it differently.

As someone who has walked through my own difficult path - I don’t see dysregulation, I see survival.

šŸ’„ Before we pathologize anger, we have to ask:

Where is this anger coming from?

What story is it trying to tell?

And do I have the right to be angry?

šŸ‘‰ I just shared a new blog about this. If you or someone you know has ever wondered if they’re ā€œtoo angry,ā€ I hope you’ll read it — and maybe start asking a different question.

Mindfulness in trauma therapy is much more than simply breathing away anxiety. My clients are brave survivors of childhood physical, emotional, and sexual abuse... who have often endured years of relationship abuse well into adulthood. We aren't working to just breathe away anxiety, but to truly reconnect with a body that has been stolen and shaped by judgment, shame, and self-hatred. Please check out my latest blog post, and share my practice with anyone (yourself included) who needs to process through trauma locked deep within. I see you, I know you are there, and I am here when you are ready.

I am so proud to be partnering with Denise Sheets to offer this service to the Hair Loss community. Welcoming both other clinicians to join the group, as well as women in need of support. Let's break the stigma against the mental health struggles related to Women's Hair Loss together.

More than in-person therapy...

I’m so honored to be the first psychotherapist at the Prana Holistic Healing Center - truly creating mind-body healing together!
Stepping into this space felt like coming home. The light, the quiet, the care in every detail—it aligns with everything I believe therapy should be. I’ve taken time to find perfection... a space that feels safe, calm, and intentional… a space that reflects the way I practice: relational, grounded, and deeply respectful of your process.

For those I work with—teens & adults navigating trauma, life transitions, or a return to themselves—having a space that holds us both matters. In-person therapy offers something uniquely nourishing. Sometimes, just being in the room with someone who gets it can shift things.

This is more than a new location. It’s a new chapter. And I’d be honored to share it with you.

The weight of the past doesn't have to define your future. Trauma can impact anyone, and for men, the pressure to 'just deal with it' can make healing even harder.

I'm a trauma therapist offering a confidential space for men to process experiences, build resilience, and reclaim their strength. It's not about weakness; it's about taking control.

Ready to move forward? You don't have to do it alone.
