Rage Against the Machine “Killing In the Name” live at the Dutch Pinkpop Festival in Landgraaf, Netherlands May 31, 1993.

“Killing in the Name” is a visceral condemnation of those in power who use violence and systemic bias to control others, urging listeners to challenge and reject that control.

Some words from Booker T Jones on the passing of MG’s guitarist Steve Cropper.

I am saddened by the passing of Steve Cropper. God rest his soul in peace.

I remember riding my bicycle as a kid to Satellite Records and meeting Steve who was working as a clerk there. Day after day he allowed me to play records, free of charge, knowing I had no money to pay for them. He was such a nice guy.

He was an innovator and I was fortunate to work with him.

I will miss him.

On this day 30 years ago in 1995, one of my favorite and most influential albums of all time was released. It was the debut release from Son Volt following the dissolution of Jay Farrar’s band Uncle Tupelo. Rolling Stone picked it as #9 on their list of Best Albums of the year with its mix of loud distorted guitars, dusty acoustic melancholy alt-country tracks, and Jay Farrar’s poignant lyrics and weathered vocals.
