Lydia! An amazing woman.

"Companionship at this stage of life is not just nice to have—it’s vital. It brings dignity, joy, and continuity to the people in our community who need it most."

Laura Filshtein, a volunteer with JFCS' Friendly Visitors program, was matched with 104-year-old Lydia, a former medical doctor and resident of Rhoda Goldman Plaza (JFCS' vibrant assisted living community). As they got to know each other over weekly card games, their time together evolved from a volunteer opportunity to a real connection.
