I’ve been counting down the days, and it’s almost here: My new book, “The Bridges We Cross: A Therapist’s Journey of Healing and Connection,” arrives Tuesday, February 18th!

Drawing from my experiences as a psychotherapist and my passion for exploring cultural intersections, this novel follows characters wrestling with trauma, identity, and belonging—ultimately discovering how empathy and perseverance can bridge even the deepest divides.

“Do a good deed and throw it in the river; one day it will come to you in the desert.” A quiet gesture, unseen by the world, carried by the river’s flow to places unknown. The ripples fade, the act is forgotten, the waters close over, and we move on. Years pass, seasons change, and life takes us to barren places — to the desert, where the air is dry, and hope seems far away. There, in that stillness, the gift returns. 2. Creating Distance: Separate yourself from anxious thoughts by labeling them, reducing their power over you.
3. Staying Present: Use mindfulness meditation and grounding techniques like the 5-4-3-2-1 method to anchor yourself in the present moment.
4. Observing Thoughts: Shift your perspective to see yourself as the observer of your thoughts and feelings, not identifying with them.

I truly admire Jordan Peterson’s insights on relationships. He emphasizes that expecting all romantic interactions to be spontaneous is unrealistic, especially in marriage. With the busyness of life, especially with kids and jobs, finding time for spontaneous interactions is almost impossible. Instead, making dedicated time for each other is crucial.

When dating, we put in effort to present ourselves well and create positive experiences. This effort shouldn’t stop after marriage; in fact, it should increase. Maintaining and nurturing a relationship requires ongoing thought and effort. Wise words from Jordan Peterson that resonate deeply.
