You don't need to be afraid of your teenager’s pain. ❤️🩹

When our teens are hurting, our instinct is to "fix" it. But research shows that simply staying calm while they are undone is more therapeutic than any advice we can give.

Molly McCobb, LCSW, shares insights from Dr. Lisa Damour’s latest work on why Validation First is the golden rule of adolescent parenting. By being a steady anchor in their storm, you communicate that their discomfort is survivable. ⚓️

In this blog, we explore: ✅ The "Validation First" rule ✅ Moving from "I'm fine" to Emotional Granularity ✅ Why empathy actually lowers systemic inflammation in teens

Check out the full post for scripts on how to handle vague bad moods and when teens "externalize". 👉 https://www.practicesanfrancisco.com/blog/a-therapists-book-review-for-parents-the-emotional-lives-of-teenagers-by-lisa-damour

The Bravery Challenge - Stop letting the "Worry Bully" call the shots. 🛑

Building social confidence isn't about being fearless; it's about taking small, intentional steps even when we feel nervous.

By using a Bravery Ladder, students can prove to themselves that they can handle social discomfort and that their "worst-case scenarios" rarely come true.

Ready to start your ladder?

Ever feel like you’re stuck in a recurring "difficult moment" - like the morning rush or the bedtime battle? 🤯

At Practice SF, we recommend the ABC Model to help parents move from frustration to observation. By tracking the Antecedent, the Behavior, and the Consequence, you can stop guessing why a behavior is happening and start finding real solutions.

This week, we challenge you to simply "catch" a pattern without trying to change it yet. What do you notice?

Download the ABC Tracking sheet and give it a try! bit.ly/45zGqSR
