It has been 8 weeks since the Park Fire stormed through the small mountain community of Cohasset. 8 weeks since I started this GoFundMe for our mom Susie. 8 weeks since we realized our family home and retreat space was not just burned but extremely scorched. 8 weeks since we saw photos of the home, land and barn studio to show the immense loss on Susie's land, where she has lived for 51 years.
This past week mom/Susie was able to move into her 5th wheel trailer, thanks to very hard work by my brother Patrick and other local Cohasset men he hired to help him. In the photos below you will see her trailer which we purchased with the GFM funds. The area around the trailer is gravel Patrick purchased with funds to create a nice dust free area for mom. The hay was a donation Cohasset fire victim residents were given and it was spread all around the land in certain spots to help prevent erosion when the rains come. Other photos show Susie walking the land. Skylar Puterbaugh, my cousin who also grew up on the land, visited mom this past week. I owe gratitude to Skylar for capturing these photographs as well as being there for our mom. You will see in the pictures Susie walking in the forest, which is unrecognizable even to my eyes. There is another photo of mom standing looking at the spring "box" where the mountain spring water (of which she has property rights to, yes fresh water from the earth!). The crystal clear water is our drinking water on the land and to the house. We will need to rebuild a structure to cover this box with the funds you all have generously donated. You will also see a different view of the empty pond looking towards moms little trailer as well as bright green sprouts at the base of a tree. Life is coming back, albeit slowly.
I speak for my siblings Theresa, Patrick and our mom, THANK YOU for all the love and support as well as the donations here. We are forever grateful.
If you have others you could share our story with and keep the GFM alive, the donations coming here and there, we are grateful. We are taking it one day, one week at a time and are trying to keep up hope and a vision of what is to come.
