Look and feel better by following these simple everyday posture tips. Take care of your spine.

1. Don't sleep on your stomach. This puts too much pressure on your lower spine. Find a position where you can keep your spine in a neutral position.

2. Use low back support. Make sure the chairs you sit in (especially for longer times), support your lumbar (lower back).

3. Avoid slouching. This is a big one, especially as we hunch over to work on our laptops and smartphones. Look up, roll your shoulders back. Get my favorite posture support band.

4. Sleep with a pillow under your knees. Raising your knees allows your spine to come into a more neutral position.

Hilda is 103 1/2 years young and still comes into my office almost every month to get her spine adjusted. Yes, she’s developed a kyphotic curve over the years!

Wall Angels are my go to exercise for correcting slouchy posture!!!

You can do these anywhere, anytime, even when you’re traveling on business or for fun. If you have developed moderate to severe forward head posture and increased thoracic kyphosis (big words for slumping), it can take months, years to notice the changes. ▶️▶️Stay the course, I slumped most of my life because of a low back injury.

I do these exercises daily and get regular chiropractic care to maintain my spine and nervous system which ultimately helps my Posture.

✅Stand with back against the wall and elbows bent with arms at a 120 degree angle. Back of hands are against the wall.
✅Pull elbows down toward the floor.
✅Feel shoulder blades being squeezed together in mid back.

▶️▶️Perform 3 sets of 20!

The hump? These are only normal on camels! Bad posture is the most common cause of a Dowager’s Hump.

I’m seeing too many of you developing these because of poor posture and forward head syndrome. For you ladies, some of your bad posture starts as a teen because those bo***es seem to develop overnight. If you have a petite frame and a large chest…Yikes, it’s easier to slouch, round your shoulders and try to hide the fact that you now have b***s… and some of you gals have way bigger b***s than most of us…picture Dolly Parton and her Virginia Twins. Dolly has good posture but in interviews she says she had a breast reduction because she was suffering from so much back pain.

Depending on your age and severity of kyphosis (change in curve), you can often improve this problem. Change doesn’t happen overnight - it could take months to see results.
✅For starters, you need a well fitted bra. We have a list so reach out, happy to share.
✅Exercise and chiropractic adjustments are key. ✅Chin tucks (yes, it’s my go to for changing forward head posture), wall angels and push ups done in the corner of a room or a door frame so that your shoulders move beyond your hands.
✅Create a consistent habit. When you get up in the morning and you’re walking into the kitchen or bathroom, stop at the door frame…. Crank out 10 push ups. Oh yeah, you’ll feel so good about yourself and changing your mindset is empowering.
✅Get your spine adjusted! The vertebrae in the hump becomes fixated and shows up as a mechanical block.

We spend 1⁄3 of our life sleeping so I’m in favor of having great, supportive pillows along with a supportive mattress.

I tell my patients, I’m a pillow pusher... not a pill pusher! 😂🤣
There are many awesome pillows on the market and in my opinion, it’s all about personal preference.
▶️▶️I like Tri-Core and SleepRight side sleeper pillows.
✅Best to sleep on your back or your side.
✅Find a pillow that supports the curve in your neck and when you are sleeping on your back, have your arms by your side.
✅If you have low back pain, put a small roll type pillow under your knees. ✅When sleeping on your side, be sure your pillow is deep enough to support your head and neck in a neutral position.

▶️▶️Tummy sleeping with your arms over your head creates so much tension in your neck and shoulders. I know you get a warm fuzzy feeling on your tummy, however, long term not good for your posture or biomechanics. Tummy sleepers always end up in my office needing a Dr. Jackie B chiropractic adjustment!

This is a quick, simple posture tip that will help align your sexy neck curve and help you relax at the same time.

▶Start with a towel. I like to fold in half longways, then half again and roll it so it forms a cylinder or a sausage type roll. The more firm you can roll it, the better support. This can be used under your neck to help relieve tension at the end of your work day.

▶Next: Lay on your back on your bed, sofa or on the floor on a yoga mat – put the rolled towel under your neck as you’re looking up at the ceiling. Your neck should feel comfortable and supported - you may feel it being stretched and a gentle traction. Experiment with the roll - if the towel is too big, unroll it a bit and put the flappy part of the towel under the base of your skull. I usually have patients lie supported for 10 to 20 minutes.
✅Trust your intuition and your comfort level.

Many of you are working on computers all day and developing neck and shoulder tension. The tension in your neck can become problematic just from holding your phone📱 for hours. I know many of you are saying “yup that’s ME!”

‼ Now, don’t be looking at your phone while you’re in relaxation mode on your towel! Busted!‼
✅Put on a favorite song, a meditation or better yet, record your own affirmations in the Think Up app. It’s one of my favorites and I listen in daily.

I’m a commuter so I know first hand the value of proper posture to prevent aches and pain in the neck, shoulders, low back and body while driving or sitting in traffic. 🚗🚙🛻Picking a vehicle to accommodate our body types can be a challenge. Some of us are tiny and petite, others over 6 feet tall. Most compact cars and sports cars have limited leg room and head space causing you to twist, lean and contort your body to fit in the seat. Many seats do not have lumbar support for your low back and spine. Do the best your can with the following tips.

✅Relax and lean back - The back of your seat should be angled back slightly with your back resting comfortably
✅Headrest - set it above your ears so the top of the headrest is closer to the top of your head. This is important in reducing whiplash and spinal trauma in the event you are ever rear-ended. ▶️▶️Side Note: Always get examined by your chiropractic after any motor vehicle accident, even a low speed rear ender, as your body absorbs 5xs the G-force that the vehicle does and you can sustain soft tissue injury without experiencing severe pain.
▶️▶️2nd side note. I do my chin tucks when stopped at red lights and sitting in grid lock traffic. You can gently push the back of your head into the headrest!
✅Relax your hips and support your back - you want to be sitting on your sitz bones with your hips relaxed, especially if you are driving for hours.
✅Lumbar supports - If your car has support, use it. If not, you may need to buy a back huggar or even a rolled towel will help support your lumbar curve.
✅Adjust your mirrors - no neck craning, adjust your rear-view and side mirrors so you can see traffic and cyclists
