Can adult dancers go en pointe? There’s a common myth that adults can’t go en pointe, that you have to do it when you’re younger. This could not be further from the truth! With proper training, adult dancers can safely go en pointe.

Natalie Mao is a third-year Doctor of Physical Therapy student in the UCSF/SFSU joint program and a 2022 graduate of UC Davis. In addition to her studies, Natalie serves as a strength and conditioning coach at a private gym, where she specializes in movement analysis and the development of periodized, goal-oriented programming. She is passionate about providing individualized, evidence-based, and culturally competent care to all patients and clients.

Natalie blends her decade-long experiences with Chinese classical, ballet, and contemporary dance with her background as a competitive powerlifter. She strives to integrate modern strength and conditioning principles into the performing arts community, optimizing health and performance of these artistic athletes.

We’re excited to welcome Natalie Mao, a physical therapy student, to SF Performing Arts PT for her clinical rotation! 🎉🩺

Beginning Monday, March 9th, you will be able to book supervised appointments with Natalie. Our Story

SF Performing Arts Physical Therapy provides Physical Therapy to dancers from student level to professional (up to Principal level) in all dance disciplines. We also offer private pilates sessions and conditioning. Not a dancer, not a problem! We have many patients who are not dancers but are active in other ways and benefit from our care. If you are wondering if you qualify, don’t wonder any further, you do qualify. Feel free to contact us with questions, we would love to help you.
