Historic Ground-Breaking for Gracenter!
This year, 2021 Good Shepherd Gracenter celebrates the 60th anniversary of its construction. This was accomplished totally through the generosity of volunteers from 11 labor unions who donated their time and talent and 52 companies who donated the materials!
Because of this incredible story, we chose the theme of “BUILDING THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS” for our anniversary year and we are thrilled to be building ONCE AGAIN—through partnerships—thanks to an amazingly generous grant from a women’s drug and alcohol program, STEPPING STONE!
A ground-breaking on Sunday, November 21st was attended by representatives from our Board, the Good Shepherd Guild, the Sisters, Residents, Staff, Volunteers and supportive friends from our Portola neighborhood
Patrick Ryan, one of the volunteer carpenters who built Gracenter in 1961, has been our good friend and volunteer ever since—even at 101 years old! We asked him to be one of the first with a shovel today at the ground-breaking ceremony. He also assisted Sr. Jean Marie Fernandez with the blessing of the site.
The new building of Gracenter will have five bedrooms and it fulfills our dream of serving event more women in our residential treatment program providing supportive recovery services and transitional housing.
Together we celebrate and strengthen women in recovery, they in turn strengthen their families and strong families create safe and peaceful communities – something our world desperately needs.
