Thanks to our generous donors, volunteers, and sponsor, Proposition Chicken OTTP-NorCal delivered gifts to over 150 youth this holiday season! These aren’t just gifts — each item supports self-care, creativity, play, and important life skills as part of their therapeutic journey.

Photo 1: One youth received a safety box to securely organize important documents as she prepares for new jobs and school opportunities. Her occupational therapist, Andrea Hernandez, OTR/L, shared:

"As the youth transitions to independent living, the box will provide a secure way to organize and store important documents, supporting her as she onboards into new jobs and enrolls in academic programs that require access to identification and other essential paperwork."

Photo 2-3: This youth lit up with excitement as she opened her gifts! As a new parent, finding time for herself isn’t easy, but these items help support her self-care and overall wellness, making a lasting impact on her daily life.

Your support makes moments like this possible and helps youth take meaningful steps toward their goals.

We are incredibly grateful to the team St. Anselms Episcopal Church, led by Joni Pearce, Outreach Chairperson and a 2025 OTTP-NorCal Silver Sponsor. By sponsoring more than 20 gifts, their community helped ensure the youth we serve felt celebrated, supported, and truly remembered this holiday season.

It’s an honor to partner with people who share our dedication to supporting youth mental health and well-being.

At OTTP-NorCal, our Incentive Program helps youth stay motivated by turning meaningful goals into achievable milestones.

Research shows that pairing goal-setting with incentives can increase follow-through and commitment (Incentive Research Foundation). For many of the young people we serve, showing up—at school, work, or therapy—takes incredible effort amid real barriers like transportation challenges, family stress, and housing instability.

A small, meaningful reward can spark momentum, break big goals into manageable steps, and celebrate progress along the way. Every step forward matters.

These OT-inspired resolutions come straight from OTTP-NorCal therapists, and are designed to support real life, not perfection. From taking sensory breaks to building cozy routines and honoring rest, small shifts can make a big difference in how we feel day to day.

Which one will you be trying this year?

At OTTP-NorCal, many of the youth we serve, who are already navigating significant obstacles, are also in, or transitioning out of, the foster care system. For these young people, consistent, trusting relationships can make all the difference.

Since 2021, Sarah Hui, OTD, OTR/L, Vocational Services Manager, has been that steady presence for two sibling clients in foster care.

At the Alameda County Juvenile Justice Center, OTTP-NorCal clinicians bring trauma-informed occupational therapy, and lived experiences, into every session. Clinicians like Tamica C. Edwards, OTD, draw on personal insight and professional training to help youth build regulation, confidence, and a sense of possibility, reminding them they are more than their circumstances and that their story is still being written.

We’re proud to celebrate Tenaya Jo, OTR/L, who was selected to present at the Occupational Therapy Association of California Conference on their topic: Occupational Therapy for Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Clients Post Gender Affirming Surgery.

Tenaya’s work began as a 500-hour doctoral capstone project, where they created a comprehensive 70-page resource to help occupational therapists support clients before and after surgery.

“As a transgender individual who has had gender-affirming surgery, I noticed a lot of gaps in my care once I was sent home. While in occupational therapy school, I realized that an occupational therapist would have been the perfect person to help me prepare for surgery and support my recovery. It is important to me to continue to support my trans community, and researching and creating this booklet felt like a meaningful way to do that.”

We’re honored to have clinicians like Tenaya, whose lived experience, compassion, and advocacy strengthen our community and the youth we serve.

Thank you to the VMware by Broadcom team for visiting our San Francisco office to wrap over 150 gifts for our Holiday Gift Drive!

This marks the fourth year the team, led by Sheeva Banisalam, Sales Leader and Regional Director, has supported OTTP-NorCal, with gift-wrapping presents purchased by donors through the Holiday Gift Drive. Over the past four years, they’ve wrapped an estimated 1,000 gifts for youth across all of our programs. They show up year after year to ensure children and teens experience care, dignity, and joy during the holidays.

In their first year, the team also took on a major behind-the-scenes project, transforming our San Francisco supply room by sorting, organizing arts and crafts supplies and carefully arranging clothing by size. The work that continues to benefit our therapists and youth today.

Their dedication, teamwork, and attention to detail ensure that every young person we serve has a meaningful gift to open this holiday season. This is the power of community partnership, and we are grateful for their continued support.

We were grateful to welcome the Kelly Crawford Team, a 2025 Platinum Sponsor, to our San Francisco office to help wrap gifts for our Holiday Gift Drive!

Kelly Crawford, Realtor at Vanguard Properties, shared what inspired his team to volunteer:

“It was such a great opportunity to learn more about OTTP and the youth they serve, help out a bit with brightening the holidays, and get a chance to learn how we can do more. We make our living selling homes. Homes are in communities. Communities flourish when the people in and around them thrive.”

Because of their support, youth in our programs will have thoughtful, beautifully wrapped gifts to open this holiday season.

Thank you, Kelly Crawford Team, for helping create moments of joy for the young people we serve.

Tenaya Jo, OTD, Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist, works on OTTP-NorCal’s Early Childhood Mental Health Collaborative. Tenaya provides occupational therapy services to children ages 3–5, their families, and staff across 13 OUSD Early Childhood Education sites.

They recently created a Sensory Integration worksheet that breaks down what the 8 senses look like in a classroom, the behaviors that may signal challenges with sensory regulation, and practical strategies teachers, therapists, and staff can use to support children in the moment.
