OTTP-NorCal’s Oakland Sensory Space was created by Micah Lessans, MSW, LCSW, Clinical Supervisor, to support kids and teens while they receive the essential therapeutic services they need.

Everything is intentional. Adjustable lighting and vibrant colors help us tune the room to each person’s sensory needs—whether that’s sound, sight, touch, movement, or body awareness.

You’ll see tools for both high-energy and calming moments, so youth can choose what feels right for them, right now.

In every session, youth get to choose what supports them. With guidance from our team of therapists, that choice becomes a powerful part of healing.

“How do you explain OT to someone who doesn’t know anything about it?”

Brierre Johnson, OTD, MHRS, Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist, describes occupational therapy as using diverse activities to build skills tailored to each client’s needs. One example she often uses is “Jenga with Questions,” a game-based activity that sparks connection and skill-building.
