PRC PRC helps those affected by HIV/AIDS, substance use, or mental health issues realize their best selves. Their education. How others see them.

There’s more to health than just, “Are you sick or well?” True wellness goes so much deeper than that. To truly help a person, you must help them on every level, assess and address all the social factors that affect them: Their environment. How they see themselves. But, up against so much, trying to change so many things, we simply cannot do it alone. We need you there, too, fighting right alongsi

de us. At PRC, we believe that everyone – regardless of their situation – has value and potential, and we fight tirelessly to help them realize that, by directly tackling these social factors. With your help, we help our clients realize their best selves. By helping them stabilize their housing. Develop the skills to find and keep a job. Overcome substance and mental health issues. Secure income and healthcare benefits. And, most importantly, by giving them hope, and a path to new opportunities. Together, we can shine a light on the causes that affect our clients and ensure they get the attention and respect they deserve. Because when people have the ability to realize their potential, to lead stronger and more productive lives, they add to – not take away from – the community. So help us improve our community by helping its most vulnerable members.

This Independence Day, let’s remember that freedom means many things, including the courage to break free from stigma, substance use, and mental health challenges. Here’s to those reclaiming their independence, one day at a time.

“Jail, the streets, psychiatric emergency services — these end up being the points of entry into the city’s mental health care treatment... Why is it that people can’t just go out and find care, if they need it?” says former PRC CEO Chuan Teng in an article published recently by SF Public Press.

A collaborative of SF behavioral health providers — which includes local organizations PRC, Progress Foundation, HealthRIGHT 360 and Conard House — has tried to analyze the city’s behavioral health system and recommend to city leaders how it could evolve to satisfy the mandates of Proposition 1.

Read more about our work to ensure our behavioral health system is proactive and adapts to the needs of our community and it's most vulnerable members.

Over the next year, San Francisco must examine and potentially redesign its system of behavioral health care, with input from the public. Some experts see this as an opportunity to improve services.

On Wednesday, we stood alongside hundreds of advocates to demand a City budget that puts people first. This is what solidarity looks like: coming together across cultural and generational communities to stand up for the providers serving working and marginalized people throughout our great city. We depend on funding in the City budget to continue building a robust workforce; to continue providing legal and emergency aid to those in need; to continue treating and housing those most vulnerable.

Stay engaged this budget season! If you believe that PRC and our nonprofit partners make the city better each day, tell your local officials and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

The Black Leadership Council, an initiative of PRC, recently hosted Chevron's Bay Area Black Employee Network for a volunteer activation at Odyssey House!

This effort was part of a summit coordinated by the Brotherhood of Elders Network, San Francisco Foundation, and East Bay Community Foundation. Together with Chevron employees, we spent the day beautifying the historic recovery program that provides permanent housing to Black adults who were formerly incarcerated or unhoused, one of only a few such programs in the city.

As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure our facilities are healing spaces, the team cleared the garden and planted new flowers, painted the kitchen and dining room, and reorganized a shared space that also serves as a private counseling room.

"Odyssey House staff and residents thank the PRC beautification team for coming into the home and making things make sense again. The storage room is organized, the yard is fresh with new flowers, and our dining room and kitchen were painted to perfection. We could not have done this without the team. The feeling of working and living here just got much more comfortable. We are so grateful! Thank you!"

May was Staff Appreciation Month here at PRC, filled with joy, connection, and well-deserved recognition across our entire organization. Staff participated in weekly prizes and games and we capped the month off with an all-staff luncheon at our headquarters. Our incredibly hard-working People Experience team made this entire month possible, taking every opportunity to shower staff at all levels with gratitude and recognition.

PRC is made up of some of the most dedicated, hard-working, and skilled people working in San Francisco and we're grateful for each and every one of our colleagues this month and all months!

We’re thrilled to welcome Gia Jung (she/they) to the PRC Board of Directors!

Gia brings both professional acumen and deeply personal passion to our mission. A practicing attorney specializing in securities and business fraud class actions, Gia is committed to holding powerful entities accountable.

Raised in Southern California and now proud to call San Francisco home, Gia has been a lifelong advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, mental health equity, and community empowerment. Their connection to PRC began with hearing the stories of our clients and staff—stories that resonated deeply due to Gia’s own family experiences with addiction and mental health.

“I want to be part of a mission that empowers the whole person, not one that shames or institutionalizes,” she shared.

Gia also brings a rich history of activism and organizing, from founding an LGBTQ+ student group in community college to a diverse pro bono practice that began in law school. At PRC, Gia looks forward to lending her legal expertise and connections to support our strategic goals, and continuing the legacy of q***r leadership and allyship that defines PRC’s history.

Please join us in welcoming Gia to the PRC family!

Last month, PRC leaders joined longtime PRC and AIDS quilt volunteer Joanie Juster and “mother of the AIDS quilt” Gert McMullin for a tour of the AIDS Quilt at its San Leandro warehouse. The quilt, begun as the Names Project in 1985 and now overseen by sister agency the National AIDS Memorial, now numbers roughly 50,000 panels dedicated to more than 110,000 individuals lost to HIV/AIDS. Gert has been with the quilt since the beginning and had countless stories to share about how meaningful this project has been to so many.

This was a special opportunity to reconnect with the history of our movement and remind ourselves of the importance of the fight against HIV. Thank you Gert for pressing onward while keeping this history alive!
