Happy birthday to my daughter Ingrid today🍥. It was a home birth above the yoga studio I owned on Divisadero street in San Francisco. . She came after 40 minutesof labor. It was a dark night of the solstice and we feasted on Christmas food in bed about an hour after the birth. Beautiful Child. Ingrid Aurelia. Beautiful experience.

Beautiful and brilliant aspects of yoga partially explained her by the beloved BKS Iyengar.

I keep teaching Yoga Nidra because it changes people—quietly, steadily, and without force.

Sometimes the most profound healing happens in stillness, not movement.

If you need that tonight, I’ll be teaching at 7:30 PM
+ livestream.

🍲 What I Ate for Lunch Today (Ayurvedic Fall Edition)

Lunch today was one of those accidentally perfect meals — a bowl of warm kitcheree blended with homemade pumpkin soup, creating the coziest, most nourishing fall dish. Creamy, lightly spiced, grounding, and still gentle enough for all three doshas. 🍂✨

Kitcheree is one of Ayurveda’s most balancing foods — a simple combo of mung dal, rice, ghee, and spices that supports digestion, calms the nervous system, and brings the body back to center. Pair that with pumpkin (naturally sweet, packed with nutrients, and ideal for Vata season) and you get a meal that feels like a hug from the inside out.
And yes — I always welcome a slice of good German bread with butter on the side. Ayurveda is about nourishment, not deprivation. 😌🍞

Want to make this yourself? You can find my full kitcheree recipe here:

So much of life asks for effort.
Yoga Nidra asks for the opposite—your willingness to let go.
To trust that doing less can be its own kind of medicine.

Yoga for now.

I teach yoga to everyone and started teaching in Manhattan a long time ago at the 92nd Street Y. It was scary for me but beautiful. I keep practicing yoga and teaching yoga because it helps me. Because of that I know it can help others if they are interested. I’ve been traveling back and forth to Florence, Italy regularly since 2015. I teach there and the students are wonderfully diverse, funny, intelligent, exhausted and looking for something to help them and to feel better. It’s like this everywhere now.

I started teaching yoga to pregnant woman long before I became pregnant. It was really accidental. No one knew how to teach women yoga when they were pregnant so I volunteered to figure it out and get some training. It’s been a beautiful path for me as it has helped me come to terms with culture, tradition, health, taboos, misbeliefs, motherhood and parenting. The photo above is from prenatal videos with Udaya.com they became available last summer. (You can order them through my website with a discount.)

I like to teach everyone yoga and I love it when everyone is there--a spectrum of people during all ages of life--adding in culture is even better. This is real life and mixing real life with yoga is my personal favorite way to be.
