Hi all, So I wanted to give a quick update. Summer school is over and I took chemistry and human anatomy over the summer at night while working full time during the day. Awaiting my grade back from chemistry but I killed anatomy, thanks to Dr. Gano who proctored my exam for me at work so I didn't have to take time off and pay $150 for a center to watch me take a test. So I asked my wonderful co-worker for a rebozo on her trip to mexico last month and her trip was cut short and she wasn't able to get it in time. So I decided to buy one from Mr. Carlos Rivera from Chiapos Mexico. His prices were stellar and though it took a month to arrive it was worth the wait and it looks beautiful and of good quality. Inspired by the Mother daughter team in the bay area Nickie Tilsner and her mom Juli I wanted to ask my mother, a nurse to join me on my midwifery journey. We were both accepted into the midwives college of Utah and she is starting in may, while I am deferring in hopes of getting into Bastyr. I'm super excited about the prospect of working with my mom in our own birthing center.

Baby died from complications from birthing tub water! :(

I have to say i'm not surprised. After many public health courses hearing of horror stories of the premordial soup that thrives in jacuzzis and hot tubs, infection following a water birth was bound to happen. I remember when working at alta bates, they had to close down one of the birthing rooms as their tubs had detritus was floating back in from the jets, after attempting to fill the tub. So I was blessed enough to live out one of my dreams and visit the farm at the end of September and am still processing it all. It was great to spend sunrise to sunset with so many beautiful birthing professionals and aspiring midwives from all over the country and abroad. We were such a diverse group of middies (the term used for the midwifery students who visit the farm), old and young, dairy farmers, yoga teachers, ex military, science professors, black, Latina, jewish women.
