Founded in 2013 Let’s Kick ASS AIDS Survivor Syndrome (LKA) is the first nonprofit founded to address the unmet needs and issues facing women and men living longest with HIV and AIDS. A California 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, LKA is an all-volunteer, grassroots movement united in compassion, committed to action, insisting on visibility, intent on ending isolation, and envisioning a future that long-term survivors never imagined they’d live to see. Before LKA’s first town hall in September 2013, no agency in San Francisco or elsewhere had prioritized HIV Long-Term Survivors (HTLS). The National AIDS Memorial has produced a Surviving Voices chapter every year for the last 10 years, each directed by the amazing Jörg Fockele. This chapter premiered Thursday night here in San Francisco and is now available for everyone to watch online.

Now in its 10th year and chapter, the National AIDS Memorial’s award-winning AIDS oral history and film series “Surviving Voices” honors HIV Lifetime and Lon...

The Cassidy Report comes as ADAP Advocacy launched its national advocacy campaign, calling for reforms to the 340B Program. The campaign was kicked off with a new commercial that asks the question, Is the 340B Drug Pricing Program the Next 'Too Big to Fail'? The commercial will air in the greater metropolitan DC market while Congress is in session, and it provides plenty of fodder for lawmakers to appreciate the need to move on the report.

At the end of last week, Dr. Colleen Kelley said she was getting texts about every 10 minutes from colleagues whose HIV-related research grants were being terminated by the federal government.

“This is just pure chaos and insanity,” said Kelley, chair of the HIV Medicine Association. The National Institutes of Health canceled two grants last week for HIV projects she was working on, as well as funding for a large HIV clinical trial network she was involved with.

“It’s just a massive, massive bloodbath,” Kelley said.

URGENT: PROTECT FEDERAL AGING, DISABILITY, & CAREGIVER PROGRAMS

https://sage.salsalabs.org/saveagingservices/index.html

The Trump Administration and DOGE just proposed the so-called “Make American Healthy Again” (MAHA) plan that would make it even more difficult for people to age in their homes and communities by dismantling the federal agency focused on aging and disability. This could have disastrous implications for older people, people of all ages who live with disabilities, family caregivers, and the programs upon which they rely.

We’re pushing back and we need your help.

Older people overwhelmingly prefer to age at home and receive care from a family member. The federal agency focused on aging and disability has been the primary voice within the government advocating to make this a possibility for all of us by supporting programs like home-delivered meals, adult day programs, caregiver respite, elder abuse & response services, transportation to medical care, free legal aid, and beyond. Programs that allow aging-in-place are not only popular, but cost-effective in reducing taxpayer spending on expensive institutional long-term care. Dismantling this agency would not only harm older people, family caregivers, and people with disabilities, but it would also cost taxpayers and put additional pressure on our already-strained healthcare system.

We want to ensure that support for older people is coordinated, streamlined, and prioritized across the federal government, so that everyone can get the support they need in their preferred environment. Dismantling this agency could ultimately lead to less efficiency and less coordination.

This is why we need you.

We’re asking everyone to call and email your Members of Congress and ask that they speak out against this potentially catastrophic plan. Critical supports for older people, people with disabilities, and family caregivers are on the line and we must do everything in our power to preserve these programs.

Call your Members of Congress to ask them to speak out against MAHA and this unconscionable proposal.

The Leather/Kink Community was affected early and viscously by AIDS in the early years.

WE NEED YOUR HELP click here to contribute https://bit.ly/donateleatherplaques

The Leather Walk 2024 has concluded, and it was a resounding success. Over 200 kinksters marched from City Hall to the Eagle, visiting South of Market leather bars along the way.

We are still taking donations to the Leather Legacy Landmarks sidewalk plaques project. You still have time to help us reach our goal of $22,000—we are halfway there! The fundraising ends this Sunday, October 13, so please donate what you can.

The goal of this phase is to permanently install 77 sidewalk plaques at select locations to ensure that the unique heritage and contributions of SOMA’s leather, kink, and q***r communities continue to thrive. This aims to inspire future generations to preserve our history and honor these spaces. Please consider donating to https://bit.ly/donateleatherplaques
