What makes Pelvis Centered Yoga different?

You will learn about your anatomy !

We will cue from the bony landmarks of the pelvis .

You will know and feel your:
- hip points ( anterior superior iliac spine - “ASIS”
- Posterior superior iliac spines “PSIS”
- Sit bones
- P***c Bone
-Tail bone

When we move from our bones with proper cueing , we move in a way that is in accordance with our bodies wisdom. In doing so we prevent unnecessary injury in asana.

Ever been asked to tuck your tail bone in chair pose or be between two panes of glass in triangle pose ? Did you know that those cues are not in harmony with anatomical reality ?

Feel your body doing asana in a complete new way .

“ I left work early and told my coworkers I was going to a spinning babies class … they said ‘ say what ?! You’re gonna spin your baby ?!!!’” 🤣
No, we aren’t teaching you how to spin your baby like a record 😂 your baby doesn’t need to be “spinned”😵‍💫
We are simply giving you tools to maximize space in your body for your baby to move into .

Your tissues adapt to the positions that you spend the most time in.

If you’re spend most of your day moving - good on you ! 🏋🏾‍♀️

If you spend most of the day sitting / driving / in front of a computer , sitting on your tail bone , shoulders rounded , head forward …. (No I’m not calling you out .. this is most people ! ) your tissues wil adapt and shorten to those positions . 💻🪑

This can contribute to unnecessary discomfort during pregnancy and effect the space available for your baby to navigate in your womb , and down through your pelvis .

The activities we learn in the Spinning Babies parent class can help to keep your tissues supple … creating more space in your body

During birth, babies descend through the pelvis by turning to fit each curve in the passage. Baby’s turns are “fetal rotation.” If fetal rotation can be made easier, birth is easier for everyone.

Perineal Prep
Knowing that I helped a birthing person feel empowered to make informed choices for themselves during their birth brings me SO much Joy 🥰✨
Preparing the body for birth can be equivalent to preparing the body for a sporting event .
we have certain muscles (pelvic floor ) that are supposed to do certain things (release and lengthen ) to make way for the babe to come earthside .
Contrary to popular belief , you do not need to “strengthen your pelvic floor “ to push your baby out- instead these muscles to release and lengthen around sensation that may feel intense .
In a perineal preparation visit with me , we will practice releasing and lengthening around this sensation of stretch … in various birthing positions.
In doing so, you can become familiarized with what releasing and lengthening actually FEEL like , and which positions are of most comfort to you … so that come time for birth … (should you have the ability to pick the position you choose to bring your baby earthside)… you have an idea of what position works best for your body .
It’s all about reinforcing a helpful movement pattern for that action … to help minimize perineal injury . The more you practice , the more engrained this neural pathway is in your system and the more you will be able to soften and release into that sensation ✨

The intrinsic stability of the 3 bones
of the pelvis comes from the network of strong ligaments that connect both ilium to the sacrum ( at the SI joint). .
The pelvis is a bony RING ⭕️
Next time you’re in a seated spinal twist or a revolved chair pose and your hip comes off of the floor or your knee moves forward -don’t fret ! This is normal -repeat- N O R M A L movement
Once these ligaments are stretched out, there’s no going back- the intrinsic stability of the pelvis is compromised 🥺
So, let’s move intelligently when we practice asana . In doing so, we minimize unnecessary injury , allowing our bodies to be used as a vehicle to practice these postures that bring us back to the Self for years to come ✨
As my teacher says “ your body is smarter than you “. Our bodies hold so much wisdom.Listening to the intrinsic intelligence of your body will never steer you wrong ❤️
