Here’s what happens when you Google images for … Do you notice anything interesting?? There are no actual pictures of triggerpoints because they’ve never actually been visualized or seen anywhere in any one.

There is no good evidence to date to support the existence of the traditional idea of triggerpoints.

They have not been accurately defined, they cannot be accurately or reliably palpated, and randomized controlled trials that use patient blinding and placebo intervention controls find no difference between placebo and intervention groups.

Yes people certainly have sore spots, but we have to stop telling everyone that they are full of trigger points that need to be released and are balling up their muscles causing dysfunction!

There are other explanations for the sore spots that make more sense, (referred hyperalgesia and PNS sensitivity) but at the end of the day we genuinely don’t know what they are.

What we do know is that they are extremely unlikely to be the traditional definition of triggerpoints.
