Ask the Coach: How do you go about creating a New Year’s resolution for yourself, and how do you keep them?

As we step into a new year, our coaches share how they set meaningful resolutions—and actually follow through.

Gavin (): “I spend time reflecting on the year just gone, my aim is to maintain a healthy balance between my physical, emotional, and mental health. I then plan on how I can improve that balance in the New Year—maybe I need to be more consistent with my strength training? Maybe I need to socialize more? Spend more quality time with my family? Or maybe I need to visit a new place or try a new hobby? I then make a plan and work toward achieving my resolutions.”

Tracy (): “I start by setting goals that support my own well-being, knowing that taking care of myself allows me to be fully present for my clients. I focus on intentions that help me slow down and create balance, including prioritizing things I might otherwise put off, like doctor’s appointments. By doing so, I can consistently show up feeling grounded, healthy, and energized.”

We’ve added two brand-new pieces of equipment!

We now have a second Lat Pulldown (located on our first floor) which includes a Low Row Machine.  

Also, we are psyched to introduce a Belt Squat Machine into our extensive list of lower-body equipment options. The Belt Squat allows for heavy loading opf the legs with minimal stress on the spine. This makes it a valuable tool for building strength, supporting joint health, and progressing safely over time.

Every piece of equipment at DIAKADI is chosen to support how you move, not just how much you lift. These new machines are now on the floor and ready to be integrated into your training.

We are excited to welcome our newest team member, Katie Sasselli!

Katie was born and raised in Los Angeles, and she just recently graduated from UCLA with double majors in Political Science and Public Affairs. She played competitive soccer for over ten years and has now become an avid lover of all things fitness.

Katie plans to pursue a career in aviation and will soon begin flight training to become a commercial airline pilot. In her free time, she loves reading, spending time at the beach, cooking, traveling, and watching documentaries!

Ask the Coach: How Do You Practice Moderation During the Holidays?

We asked our DIAKADI advanced coaches how they stay consistent — without missing out.

Aurora (): “Holiday Aurora needs to stick to a movement routine as a constant so that I go into the holidays feeling grounded when schedules and nutrition are different. I set some intentions before going to gatherings, and while I’m there, I choose what’s worth indulging in and what’s not and not overdoing it. Setting up a holiday identity helps me make good choices and knowing I have a workout the next day reins me in.”

Anthony () : “Between traveling, social gatherings, and all the irresistible desserts, practicing moderation during the holidays can be really tough! That’s why I like to go in with a plan: Instead of piling a huge plate right away, I start small. I take a little bit of everything; I’m excited to try it, enjoy it, then pause for a quick check-in. If I'm about 80% full, not hungry but not about to burst like a blueberry in W***y Wonka, I hit the sweet spot! If I'm not quite there, I go back for seconds of my favorite dish! The same goes for desserts; instead of a full slice of pie, I slice a smaller one, knowing that someone else will probably appreciate my bravery and take the other half. This approach satisfies my urge to finish everything on my plate, while still letting me enjoy all the incredible dishes my family and friends poured their hearts into making.”

To Our DIAKADI Community…

Billy and I want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of you who contributed to Compass Family Services’ Adopt a Family program this year. Together, our DIAKADI community raised over $3,000 to support an 8-member household.

Thanks to your incredible generosity, we were able to provide this family with everything on their needs lists—items many of us might take for granted. This family received grocery funds, gift cards for clothes, gift cards for the parents to care for themselves during the holiday season, and the most-needed and most-wished-for gifts for each child.

Beyond fulfilling their immediate needs, we had some left over to include extra gift cards, giving the family the opportunity to save for a vacation, enjoy a special meal out, or purchase something meaningful for their household—things they may not have been able to do otherwise.

This family has faced significant challenges, and I am overjoyed that our community came together to bring some light and magic into their lives this holiday season. Billy and I completed the shopping and wrapping this weekend, and the physical gifts and gift cards will be dropped off tomorrow. The family will receive them next week, just in time for the holidays.

Once again, thank you for being part of this beautiful effort. Your kindness and generosity have made a meaningful difference, and we couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished together.

This year, we’re honored to support an 8-member household working hard to build stability.

We’re aiming to raise $3000 to fulfill their holiday wishlist — essentials, gifts, and items that will bring comfort and joy. 100% of every donation goes directly to purchasing their gifts.

Fuel your week the healthy way!

We are psyched to partner with locally owned Westerly Kitchen (), a healthy meal delivery service that serves fresh, ready-to-eat meals here in the Bay Area!

After the big success of last week’s meal tastings, DIAKADI will now be selling a weekly assortment of healthy, yummy, grab-n-go items from the second-floor fridge. Every Monday, you can find a new assortment of breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals for purchase, while supplies last.
