Meet Brandon:

"Hey guys, I’m Brandon Kang. I’m a professional natural bodybuilder with a background in sports performance, strength training, and muscle building. I grew up playing competitive sports and later competed in both powerlifting and natural bodybuilding — training has basically been my whole life.

These days, I’m focused on my next challenge and helping people get stronger, feel better, and actually enjoy the process. I also love food more than anything, so I’m big on showing people how to eat well, enjoy what they love, and still get in great shape without feeling restricted.

We’re partnering with the SF-Marin Food Bank to support local families, and you can help in two meaningful ways:

Snow season is on its way, and DIAKADI coach Brendan Van Dyck () is showing how to prepare your body for the slopes — with movement that mirrors the demands of the mountain.

Here’s what he thinks about preparing for ski and snowboard season:

“Snowboard and ski training isn’t just about getting your legs stronger, it’s about preparing your entire body for the unique demands of moving on an unstable surface at high speed. As the season approaches, your programming should shift toward building eccentric leg strength, rotational control, dynamic balance, and reactive core stability so your body can absorb impact and stay in control on uneven terrain. Think less “traditional gym lifting” and more multi-directional power, deceleration, edge-control strength, and endurance under fatigue. The goal is to train your body to handle rapid changes in direction, maintain stability through your ankles, knees, and hips, and stay explosive even when you’re tired. Build your training around how you actually move on the mountain, and the season feels smoother, safer, and way more fun.”

Ask the Coach: What’s Your Local Holiday Getaway Spot?

We asked a few of our DIAKADI advanced coaches to share their favorite places to unwind during the holidays:

Brendan (): “I can always count on a perfect Point Reyes day. I start by paddling through Tomales Bay, savoring oysters and sandwiches at the Marshall Store, and catching the magic of elephant seals at Dukes Beach in December.”

Zach (): “When I feel stress accumulating, I like to go to a place where the beauty of both the city and the landscape we're surrounded by is readily apparent. Whenever I'm at Baker Beach, the Presidio, or in Golden Gate Park, I can't help but feel gratitude towards this city, and whatever stress I was experiencing feels like a worthwhile exchange.”

Whether it’s escaping to the coast or reconnecting with the city, our coaches remind us that sometimes the best reset is right in our own backyard.

The holidays don’t have to be the time of year when progress stalls — they can be when you strengthen your foundation.

The key is to start building momentum now. Consistent training in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving helps your body stay metabolically active, improves energy regulation, and supports better recovery. Pair that with balanced meals, mindful hydration, and quality sleep, and you’re creating a system that’s resilient — not reactive — when celebrations begin.

It’s not about avoiding enjoyment. It’s about preparing your body and mind so you can enjoy the season without losing the balance you’ve worked for all year. When you move with intention and stay consistent, the holidays become an extension of your healthy routine, not a break from it.

Late one night in 2013, a front desk closer was finishing his shift when he saw a woman in a long dress walking through the gym. He greeted her — but when he turned back, she was gone.

A few days later, during a quiet afternoon session, coach Mike was training his client when she suddenly asked, “Who else is here?” She swore she saw a woman in a long dress glide into the boxing area. Neither had spoken to each other, yet both described the same figure.

That’s when the team began calling her Doris — the DIAKADI Ghost.
After digging into the building’s history, we learned that in 1915 it was home to a planing mill and later a plumbing supply company — places full of stories, labor, and danger.

No one knows who Doris was… or why she still lingers. But every now and then, when the gym is quiet and the air feels a little colder than it should… you might catch a faint floral scent — and a glimpse of Doris, still wandering DIAKADI.

Meet DIAKADI Coach, Aurora Bellone!

Aurora strives to empower individuals with a sense of awareness and resilience to revolutionize their journey to health while attaining their specific goals. Her approach is to work with individuals and partners to elicit a greater mind-body connection, strengthen your foundation, and develop your power to level up how you feel and perform. In a continually evolving fitness industry, she is committed to establishing a modern educational program around holistic wellness, functional exercise, and sustainable nutrition to guide you in taking control of your health.

Aurora became more and more motivated to immerse herself into fitness culture, drawing her to DIAKADI. She worked as an intern to learn the nuances and intricacies of the fitness business in San Francisco and became a certified personal trainer in 2017. The revolutionary wellness culture with the best of the best trainers motivated her to conquer her own health by experimenting with different training modalities and nutrition routines. She found her passions in Olympic style lifting, Kettlebell training, strength training, tennis specific conditioning, and a sustainable, nutrient dense diet.

Meet Jesus:

Jesús was born and raised in San Francisco, CA and by the age of 28 has traveled most of the world. He majored in Advertising and briefly worked in the film industry before dedicating his life to helping people become the best version of themselves. With over 8 years of training experience, Jesús was able to help clients complete many firsts in their fitness journey whether that be their first push-up, pull-up, and even their first workout program! When he isn’t in the gym working out, you can find him with a coffee in hand while walking dogs around the city or at a park reading a book from his local library. + Part-time 'Front Desk + Program Development Assistant' position. This is a part-time position (~20 hours) with shifts ranging from middays to closing (730p) on weeknights. ⁠
